Job Role: Accountant
Compensation range: $1,500 AUD - $2,500 AUD / Monthly
Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.
Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.
Who The Client Is:
A well-established, proactive accountancy firm based in South Australia, with a growing client base across multiple states including Western Australia, Queensland, and Adelaide. They work closely with businesses, families, and individuals, offering tailored solutions to meet unique financial needs.
Role Overview:
You’ll be our go-to for all things accounting. We need someone who can own the numbers from day-to-day bookkeeping to helping shape how our business runs. If you're dependable, detailed, and up for getting stuck in across a variety of tasks, you'll fit right in.
Key Responsibilities:
- Bookkeeping & Transaction Management
Handle daily transactions like invoices, AP/AR, bank feeds, credit cards, and petty cash. Keep everything accurate and tidy in our accounting system. - Monthly & Year-End Close
Wrap up the month (and year) with reconciliations bank, balance sheet, accruals, prepayments and get the books ready for reporting. - Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare useful financial snapshots: P&L, balance sheet, cash flow. Provide insights on performance and trends to help steer smarter decisions. - GST, BAS & Tax Compliance
Lodge Business Activity Statements (GST/BAS), prepare PAYG figures, and make sure we're all set with the ATO. - Fixed Asset & Depreciation Management
Maintain the asset register, track additions/disposals, and calculate depreciation accurately. - Software Savvy & Setup
Use Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or whatever tool we’ve got to keep our accounts roadworthy. Jump in and help streamline workflows.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- A practical, reliable accountant with 3–5 years’ relevant experience in Australia (or similar systems/environment).
- You’ve worked end-to-end accounting: bookkeeping, reconciliations, reporting, lodging but you can get both stuck into detail and zoom out to see the bigger picture.
- Familiar with ATO, BAS, GST, PAYG you know the ropes.
- A whiz with accounting software (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, etc.) and comfortable in Excel.
- You’re organised, detail-focused, and easy to work with ready to hit the ground running and assist across the finance function when needed.

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
