Job Role: Commercial Estimator

Compensation range: $1,500 AUD - $2,000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who The Client Is: A leading fit-out contractor in the construction industry, focusing on walls, ceilings, partitions, acoustic systems, insulation, and external cladding, doors, door frames & door hardware. With over 15 years of experience across commercial, residential, educational, and industrial projects, they deliver high-quality craftsmanship, stringent safety standards, and dependable timelines.

Role Overview: This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, construction plans, and project details. As a Commercial Estimator, you will prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial projects that involve walls, ceilings, and interior fit outs. You will review drawings, perform detailed take offs, assess materials and labor needs, and prepare competitive quotes. Your work will support the project team in winning bids, planning resources, and ensuring each project starts with a clear and reliable cost foundation.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Review architectural plans and project specifications to determine the full scope of work.
• Perform quantity take offs for walls, ceilings, partitions, linings, and related materials.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates covering materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
• Request, review, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotes.
• Prepare and submit tender proposals and pricing summaries.
• Work with project managers to hand over successful estimates and ensure smooth transition into project delivery.
• Update and maintain cost databases and pricing records.
• Monitor market pricing trends, material costs, and industry changes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 2+ years of proven experience in commercial construction estimating, ideally within walls and ceilings or related trades.
• Strong ability to read and interpret drawings and construction documentation.
• Proficiency with estimating software, take off tools, Xero, and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good communication and negotiation skills when dealing with suppliers and subcontractors.
• High attention to detail with an organized and methodical approach.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet tender deadlines.
• Background in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or similar is preferred but not essential.
