Job Brief
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented HVAC Design Draftsperson to support the delivery of commercial HVAC design and construct projects for Australian clients. This role is responsible for producing accurate Revit drawings, developing ductwork and pipework layouts from engineering sketches, and preparing coordinated construction documentation that supports successful project delivery.
Working closely with engineers and project teams, the successful candidate will transform design concepts into high-quality construction drawings while ensuring coordination with architectural, structural, and building services disciplines. This position is ideal for an experienced HVAC drafting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong understanding of Australian construction standards and practices.
Responsibilities
HVAC Drafting: Prepare accurate HVAC design and construction drawings using Revit based on engineering sketches and project specifications.
Ductwork Design: Develop detailed ductwork layouts, sizing, and routing from engineering mark-ups and design documentation.
Pipework Design: Produce mechanical pipework layouts and sizing drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
Design Development: Assist in developing complete design and construct documentation from preliminary engineering concepts through to detailed construction drawings.
Services Coordination: Coordinate HVAC drawings with architectural, structural, hydraulic, electrical, and other building services to identify and resolve clashes.
Drawing Management: Maintain drawing registers, revisions, and documentation in accordance with company standards and project requirements.
Quality Assurance: Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, and compliance before submission to engineers and project managers.
Project Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and drafting teams to deliver projects within agreed timeframes.
Requirements
Proven experience as an HVAC Design Draftsperson, Mechanical Draftsperson, or a similar role supporting commercial HVAC projects.
Proficiency using Revit for mechanical services drafting.
Strong experience preparing ductwork layouts and sizing from engineering sketches.
Experience producing mechanical pipework layouts and sizing drawings.
Demonstrated ability to develop design and construct documentation from engineering concepts.
Experience coordinating HVAC drawings with architectural, structural, and other building services.
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical services, and construction documentation.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality technical drawings.
Australian HVAC or building services experience is highly regarded.
Ability to work independently with a reliable computer, licensed software, and a suitable home office setup.
Software Proficiency
Building Information Modelling (BIM) – Revit
CAD Software – AutoCAD (highly regarded)
Productivity Tools – Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Collaboration Tools – Microsoft Teams or equivalent project communication platforms
Education
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Relevant HVAC or mechanical drafting qualifications will be highly regarded.
