Medical Biller: Authorization & Collections Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Medical Biller / Authorization & Collections Specialist to support a busy medical practice. This role is responsible for insurance claim processing, patient balance collections, and authorization follow-ups, ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement while maintaining professional patient communication.

Key Responsibilities

Billing & Claims

• Process and submit medical insurance claims accurately and in a timely manner
• Monitor claim status, follow up on unpaid or denied claims, and resolve issues efficiently
• Ensure claims are compliant with payer and billing guidelines

Authorizations

• Verify insurance eligibility and obtain prior authorizations as required
• Track authorization status and ensure approvals are secured before or after services as applicable
• Communicate authorization updates to the clinical and billing teams

Patient Collections

• Contact patients to collect outstanding balances and balances due
• Explain charges, insurance coverage, and payment options clearly and professionally
• Post patient payments and document all collection activities accurately

Systems & Communication

• Use eClinicalWorks (ECW) EMR for billing, documentation, and account review
• Handle inbound and outbound calls using RingCentral VoIP
• Maintain accurate notes and updates in the system after each interaction

Required Experience & Skills

• Proven experience as a Medical Biller and/or Authorization & Collections Specialist
• Hands-on experience with eClinicalWorks (ECW)
• Strong background in patient balance and balance-due collections
• Solid understanding of medical claims processing and insurance workflows
• Professional and confident phone communication skills
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple accounts efficiently
