Job Description - NZ Insurance Underwriting & Case Support - 099

OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Underwriting & Case Support to support the full insurance advice lifecycle — from quoting and Statements of Advice through to underwriting and claims management.

This role requires direct experience in New Zealand insurance.
Australian insurance experience is highly valued, but NZ experience is essential.

This is not a general admin VA position.
It is an active case management role requiring confidence communicating with insurers and medical providers via phone and email.

You will assist the adviser across the complete insurance process, including:

  • Preparing quotes
  • Assisting with Statements of Advice (SOAs)
  • Managing underwriting requirements
  • Progressing applications through to policy issue
  • Supporting claims lodgement and follow-up

You will be expected to take ownership of cases and proactively keep them moving.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Advice & Quoting Support

  • Prepare insurance quotes across life, income protection, trauma, and mortgage repayment products
  • Assist in drafting and formatting Statements of Advice (SOAs)
  • Ensure product structures, premiums, and benefit settings are accurate
  • Support completion of compliant application documentation

Underwriting & Case Management

  • Manage applications end-to-end from submission to policy issue
  • Track underwriting progress and follow up outstanding requirements via phone and email
  • Liaise with NZ insurers, underwriters, nurses, and medical providers
  • Coordinate medical evidence including GP reports, blood tests, and financial documentation
  • Review underwriting outcomes including exclusions, loadings, and special terms
  • Check issued policy documents for accuracy before placement on risk
  • Maintain detailed and accurate case notes within CRM systems
  • Escalate risks, delays, or underwriting concerns early

Claims Support

  • Assist with claims lodgement and required documentation
  • Coordinate medical and financial evidence for claims
  • Follow up claim assessors for status updates
  • Ensure sensitive and professional communication throughout the claims process

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Direct experience working with New Zealand life and/or income protection insurance
  • Experience supporting underwriting processes, including medical evidence requirements
  • Experience assisting with insurance quotes and policy applications
  • Exposure to Statements of Advice or similar advice documentation
  • Experience assisting with insurance claims processes
  • Confidence making outbound phone calls to insurers and medical providers
  • Strong written and verbal English
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple active cases

Applications without NZ insurance experience will not be considered.
Australian experience is considered highly valuable in addition to NZ experience.

Technical Knowledge Required:

Strong understanding of:

  • Agreed value vs indemnity income protection
  • Level vs stepped premiums
  • Own occupation vs any occupation definitions
  • Waiting periods and benefit periods
  • Mortgage repayment structures
  • ACC offset implications (NZ specific)
  • Underwriting exclusions and premium loadings
