Our scope of services includes new construction, renovations, airfields, fueling systems, and energy projects for a variety of commercial and Department of Defense (DoD) clients. As a prime DoD contractor, we execute a full range of construction disciplines and self-perform complex mechanical and fuels work.

CMS is currently seeking a QC Geotechnical Specialist for our ongoing DoD projects. The candidate must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a QC Manager or Geotechnical Specialist on projects of at least $10 million, with a strong background in heavy civil and airfield pavement construction. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with geotechnical field work including excavation, shoring, dewatering, pavement systems, foundation and backfill operations, and survey monitoring in complex soil types. 

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)

• Conduct daily field quality control inspections as required by project specifications
• Implement corrective actions for identified deficiencies
• Perform and document the three-phase QC process on Definable Features of Work (DFOWs)
• Lead and manage all phases of QC inspections, including preparatory and initial meetings, documentation, and follow-up
• Verify testing procedures meet contract and regulatory standards
• Coordinate and lead weekly/monthly QC meetings
• Enforce compliance with project QC plans
• Maintain records including Daily Reports, Testing Logs, Submittal Registers, and other QC documentation
• Maintain accurate documentation for all on-site and off-site QC program activities
• Work with government representatives and external agencies as needed
• Ensure all records are reviewed for accuracy and submitted in compliance with project standards
• Accompany inspectors during site walkthrough
• Perform other assigned duties

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited institution 
• Minimum of ten (10) years of geotechnical field QC experience on large-scale construction projects 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be familiar with EM 385-1-1 and safe work practices related to field operations
• Must be fluent in English for on-site reading, writing, and verbal communication
• Able to professionally communicate and coordinate with clients, staff, and external partners
• Strong organizational and documentation skills required
• Proficient in Microsoft Office / Office 365
• Able to work collaboratively with teams to accomplish project goals
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, cost control, and documentation
• Ability to interpret and enforce contract requirements and project documents
• Capable of producing accurate and timely documentation

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Reports to the Director of Quality Control
• Works in coordination with the Field Project Manager

Working Conditions

• Physical activity required; frequent lifting or moving of materials
• Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and drive
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and navigate active construction sites and uneven terrain
• Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions
• Must have a valid driver’s license and meet company insurance requirements
• Must meet federal access eligibility requirements for project locations
• Must be present on-site for the full duration of the project
