Structural/Civil Engineer - Aluminum Cover Systems

Job Type: Full-Time

Work Hours: This role follows a 4x10 schedule, Monday to Thursday, from 6:30 AM to 4:00 PM CST (Houston, TX) with a 30-minute lunch break. If a 1-hour lunch is preferred, the shift extends to 4:30 PM CST. Workdays may change if necessary.

Salary: $1,200 per month

Job Overview: 

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural/Civil Engineer with expertise in aluminum tank cover systems to lead the engineering design, structural analysis, and project execution of proprietary products, including aluminum internal floating covers, geodesic dome roofs, and flat cover systems for aboveground storage tanks (ASTs). The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, experience with industry codes, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, innovative, and reliable solutions for clients in the oil & gas, petrochemical, and water industries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engineering & Design
• Perform detailed structural design and load analysis for aluminum internal floating covers (IFCs), geodesic dome roofs, and flat covers using FEA and CAD tools.
• Ensure designs meet applicable industry codes such as API 650, ASCE 7, AWWA D108, and Ultrafloat’s internal engineering standards.
• Prepare and review detailed fabrication drawings, BOMs, and structural calculations for customer approval and shop release.
• Project Execution
• Coordinate with project managers, fabrication teams, and installers to ensure successful execution of engineering deliverables.
• Conduct structural reviews and field assessments during installation or retrofit projects.
• Contribute to root cause analysis and engineering solutions for project-specific challenges or deviations.
• Client & Internal Collaboration
• Interface with customers, sales engineers, and operations to gather design requirements and address technical inquiries.
• Support proposal development through preliminary designs, technical input, and scope clarification.
• Collaborate across cross-functional teams to innovate on product improvements and support R&D initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in structural design and analysis of aluminum storage tank covers or similar systems.
• Expertise in aluminum design, particularly bolted or extruded components.
• Strong knowledge of API 650, ASCE 7, AWWA D108, and other relevant aluminum construction codes.
• Proficiency in structural modeling software (e.g., RISA, STAAD, or ANSYS) and CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
• Familiarity with wind uplift design, seismic detailing, and vapor control requirements.
• Experience with international project codes, QA/QC documentation, and fabrication practices.
• Hands-on understanding of field installation processes and troubleshooting.
