Second Engineer

He is the executive officer of the engine room and directly responsible to the Chief Engineer.
Job Responsibilities:

• As the Chief Engineer’s deputy, he will act on his behalf in his absence, or in case of his incapacity.
• Safe Operation, maintenance and report of the main engine and its machineries.
• Ensuring that the (PMS) Engine Maintenance Plan is carried out and updated.
• Engine Indicator records of firing condition should be maintained.
• The day-to-day running of all plant and deck machineries including cranes/winches.
• The instruction and allocation of maintenance works to the respective engineers and oilers/ratings.
• The safekeeping of an engine room watch.
• The supervision and organization of all engine room day-workers.
• Monitoring of fuel and oil (r.o.b.) remaining on board.
• Taking regular oil samples (refer to Pilipinas Shell guidelines) and submit to In-charge Superintendent for analysis every three (3) months.
• Assisting the Chief Engineer with bunkering and transfer of bunkers as necessary.
• Monitoring and analysis of cooling water efficiency on a regular basis.
• Keep record of daily works done in the Engine room.
• Performing other duties, which may be assigned by the superiors.

Qualifications:

• B.S. Marine Engineering graduate. PRC/MARINA Licensed as Marine Second Engineer.
• Preferably with good command/leadership and good moral character.
• In possession of valid documents and certificate.
• Physically fit and with recent Medical Certificate (taken not more than one year) from MARINA accredited Medical Clinic.
• Have served on-board general cargo container vessel at least one (1) year as Second Engineer and with engine power less than 3,000 KW.
• No criminal record and can present NBI Clearance taken within one (1) year from the date of issue.
• Undergone ISM Awareness Seminar with valid Certificate.
• Conversant in English and/or Cebuano or Tagalog.
