Job Mandate

The Head of API Architecture and API Design to lead and oversee our enterprise API strategy, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency across all integrations. This role will be responsible for defining API best practices, leading a team of API Architects and API Business Analysts, and working closely with product and engineering teams to design cutting-edge API solutions that drive business success.

    Provide strategic direction to ensure API solutions align with business goals and technical requirements.

    
    
  
  
  • 
    

    Establish and oversee API governance processes to ensure consistency, reusability, and compliance across all APIs.

    
    
  
  
  
  


• 
  

  API Architecture & Design:

  
  
  
  
  • 
    

    Define and maintain API design standards, covering REST, GraphQL, gRPC, event-driven architectures, and hybrid API models.

    
    
  
  
  • 
    

    Ensure APIs are scalable, secure, optimized for high performance and reliability.

    
    
  
  
  • 
    

    Develop and enforce lifecycle management strategies including versioning, deprecation, and retirement policies.

    
    
  
  
  • 
    

    Establish reusable patterns, templates, and frameworks to accelerate development and improve maintainability.

    Partner with engineering, product, and business teams to define needs ensuring alignment with company objectives.

    Work closely with Analysts to translate requirements into scalable solutions.

    Promote an API-first approach ensuring APIs are designed for both internal and external consumption.

    
    
  
  
  • 
    

    Advocate for developer experience and usability, ensuring APIs are well-documented and easy to integrate.

    Evaluate and implement modern API platforms (Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, AWS Gateway).

    Stay ahead of emerging trends, architectures, and best practices, integrating them into the strategy.

    Drive observability, monitoring, and analytics initiatives to measure performance and usage.

  Security & Compliance:

  
  
  
  
  • 
    

    Define and enforce security best practices including authentication (OAuth, JWT, API keys) and authorization mechanisms.

    
    
  
  
  • 
    

    Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (BIAN, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, etc.).

    
    
  
  
  • 
    

    Implement auditing and monitoring mechanisms to ensure security and reliability.

    
    
  
  
  
  

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.

Work Experience:

• 
  

  10+ years of experience in software architecture, API design, and development.

  
  


• 
  

  Proven experience in a senior leadership role, managing API architecture teams, including API Architects and Business Analysts.

  
  

Knowledge Area

  In-depth knowledge of API design principles, RESTful APIs, and web services.

  Proficiency in API management and design tools.

Professional Certification & Licenses
