We are expanding our global Finance team and are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Manila office, with responsibility for the accounting of our APAC entities. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a vibrant, fast-paced environment and to contribute to the growth and efficiency of our finance operations across multiple jurisdictions.
As our APAC Senior Accountant, you will be a pivotal member of our Global finance team, responsible for a broad range of accounting activities within the APAC region. You will report to our Helsinki-based team lead and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with local tax, statutory accounting, and audit requirements.
This role demands a seasoned accounting professional with a strong understanding of Philippine financial reporting standards/IFRS, and ideally experience in Singaporean and Australian accounting and tax practices.
As a Senior Accountant at Smartly, you will...
- Oversee the end-to-end accounting and tax filings for the entities in our APAC region, currently covering The Philippines, Singapore and Australia
- Ensure compliance with local tax laws and statutory requirements in the APAC region
- Prepare our APAC region GST/indirect tax submissions
- Assist with statutory reporting and support annual audit processes
- Prepare and ensure timely and accurate financial reports for our APAC entities
- Participate in group accounting and consolidation efforts, including monthly reporting under Finnish Accounting Standards and annual reporting under IFRS
- Act as a central point of contact for internal teams such as HR, Payroll and Legal, ensuring seamless coordination for in-region compliance-related activities.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, banking partners and regulatory bodies as needed
- Identify opportunities for process automation and improvement within the finance function
- Support the in-housing of subsidiary accounting tasks from external service providers
- Provide guidance and support to junior finance colleagues
- Collaborate with the EMEA-based finance team to align on best practices and process enhancements
We're definitely looking for you, if you...
- Have a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Are a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the Philippines or equivalent qualification
- Have a minimum of 5+ years of end-to-end accounting experience, with exposure to international operations
- Have experience in Singaporean and Australian accounting and tax practices, and international financial reporting standards
- Have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
- Are proficient in G-suite, MS Office (Excel) and familiarity with accounting software such as NetSuite is an advantage
- Experience with group accounting and consolidation is a plus
