About the Role
We are hiring a SMSF & Business Services Accountant to support an Australia-based accounting and advisory firm operating in the public practice and professional services space.

This is a full-time, permanent work-from-home position focused on SMSF compliance, financial statement preparation, tax support, and business services accounting for Australian clients. You will work closely with Australian accountants and client managers to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of accounting outputs.

This role requires full overlap with Australian business hours (AEST/AEDT).

What You’ll Be Doing

Prepare SMSF financial statements and workpapers
Assist with SMSF tax returns and compliance documentation
Prepare financial statements for Australian entities (companies, trusts, partnerships)
Handle BAS/IAS preparation and supporting schedules
Maintain and reconcile general ledgers and supporting documents
Use Xero and other accounting systems for bookkeeping and reporting
Support tax return preparation (individual, company, trust)
Review transactions, coding, and account reconciliations
Ensure compliance with ATO requirements and lodgement timelines
Liaise with Australian accountants and internal stakeholders
Maintain accurate documentation and audit-ready files
Assist with workflow management and job tracking within practice systems
Identify discrepancies and resolve accounting data issues

What We’re Looking For
Required:

3+ years’ experience as an Accountant, AU Accountant, or Business Services Accountant
Mandatory: Experience in public practice or outsourced accounting firms supporting Australian clients
Strong experience in Australian accounting and taxation workflows
Hands-on experience with SMSF financial statements, workpapers, and compliance
Proven experience using Class Super, BGL 360, or other SMSF software (required)
Proficiency in Xero (required)
Experience using Xero Practice Manager (XPM) or FYI Docs for workflow and document management
CPA or CA (completed or currently in progress)
Experience handling multiple Australian entity types: Trusts, Companies, Partnerships, and SMSFs
Experience preparing financial statements, workpapers, and supporting schedules
Experience supporting Australian accounting firms or AU clients
Strong knowledge of reconciliations, year-end processes, and compliance documentation
Excellent English communication (written & verbal)
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
