Job Description - Senior Systems Administrator

I.        PURPOSE


The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the monitoring and management of server systems and applications in production, both in on-premises data centers and cloud environments. This role primarily focuses on Active Directory administration, Linux system management, and basic database administration to ensure the security, stability, and performance of the organization's IT infrastructure.


II.      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Work with the infrastructure team to operate, manage, and support the company’s technical infrastructure.

  • Provide operational support (incidents, service, and change requests) based on SLA and the company’s service management framework.

  • Serve as the go-to expert for Active Directory administration, including Group Policy (GPOs), authentication mechanisms, DNS, CA/PKI, WSUS, and other AD-integrated services.

  • Manage Linux servers (Ubuntu, CentOS) including user access, security, system patching, and automation using scripts or configuration management tools.

  • Perform database administration tasks, including basic management of SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL, focusing on backup, recovery, and performance tuning.

  • Align with ISO 9001 (QMS), Data Privacy (DPA 2021), and ISO 27001 (ISMS) objectives with participation in policy formulation and audits as required.

  • Maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, and operational procedures.

  • Manage license compliance for operating systems and related software.

  • Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and service providers to troubleshoot complex issues, analyze root causes, and provide resolutions.

  • Support project teams by provisioning required infrastructure, applications, and security controls.

  • Provide regular reports on system health, performance, and security posture.

  • Participate in and facilitate BCP/DR (Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery) preparedness and testing.

  • Enforce information security policies to protect confidential data, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


III.    QUALIFICATIONS


A.    Minimum Education



  • Graduate of Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent field.


B.    Minimum Experience/Training



  • At least 5 years of experience as a Senior Systems Administrator.

  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Group Policies, and authentication technologies.

  • Strong background in Linux system administration.

  • Basic knowledge of database management (SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL).

  • Expertise with automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell, Bash, or Ansible.

  • Experience in backup, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.


C.    Technical Skills



  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Active Directory (AD) administration including GPO, authentication protocols, and identity management.

  • Linux system administration (user management, security hardening, patching).

  • Database administration (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL – backup, basic optimization).

  • Windows Server update and patch management (WSUS or other similar tools).

  • Networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewall rules).

  • SSL certificate management.

  • Scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.

  • Log analysis, monitoring, and troubleshooting.


D.    Competency



  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Experience in information security best practices and compliance.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

  • Passion for continuous learning and upskilling.


 


IV.    WORKING CONDITIONS



  • Typically works in a hybrid office and work from home environment.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

  • Must be available for on-call support and extended hours when necessary.
