Sr. DevOps Engineer

The Role

A highly experienced technical leader who takes ownership of significant technical challenges and provides mentorship and guidance to the entire team.

This role focuses on leading technical delivery, designing complex systems, and serving as a go-to expert in specific domains. The ideal candidate demonstrates deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to influence technical direction across teams through individual contribution and technical excellence.

Your Team

• Reports to: Engineering Manager and/or Staff Engineer


• Team size: Part of a development team with cross-team influence (typically 6-10 members)


• Direct reports: None (Engineer with deep technical expertise in 2+ tech stacks)


• Key collaborators: Product leadership, architects, other senior engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders

Your Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery for an entire team or complex technical initiatives across teams


• Design complex applications, microservices, and system architectures that scale


• Architect solutions that balance technical excellence, business needs, and team capabilities


• Mentor and develop mid-level and junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance


• Drive technical standards, best practices, and engineering culture improvements


• Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions


• Own system reliability, performance, and operational excellence for critical services


• Influence technical decisions and roadmaps beyond immediate team scope


• Own outcomes, not just outputs — leading a workstream means you're accountable for what the team delivers, not just what you personally write; that shift in accountability is where your influence grows


• Treat people development as a deliverable — when you coach a junior engineer and they improve, that improvement is your output; engineers who compound their impact through others are the ones trusted with more


• Exercise hiring judgment — your read on candidates shapes the team's future capability; how you evaluate people in panels is the same skill that determines who you'd later build a team around


• Stakeholder Management — Speaks well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; able to simplify complex topics and present them clearly to product teams, clients, and management

About You

• 5-8 years of professional software engineering experience with progressive responsibility


• Deep expertise in 2+ technology stacks or programming languages


• Proven track record of designing and delivering complex systems end-to-end


• Strong experience in system architecture, design patterns, and scalability considerations


• Demonstrated success mentoring and developing engineers at multiple levels


• Excellent technical communication skills for documentation, presentations, and cross-team collaboration


• Experience leading technical initiatives or serving as technical lead on major projects


• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, DevOps, and production operations


• Soft Skills: Strategic thinking, stakeholder management, influence without authority, conflict resolution


• Tools: Advanced proficiency in architecture tools, monitoring/observability platforms, performance optimization


• Certifications: Senior-level cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Professional, GCP Professional Cloud Architect)

Nice to Have

• Experience in multiple technical roles or domains (frontend, backend, data, cloud, AI/ML)


• Contributions to technical community through speaking, writing, or open source


• Experience with large-scale distributed systems and microservices architecture


• Background in system reliability engineering (SRE) or platform engineering


• Track record of technical innovation and R&D initiatives
