The Freelancer Group operates three global platforms: Freelancer – the world's largest freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace by number of users and projects posted – Escrow.com, the world's leading online escrow payments platform, and Loadshift, Australia's largest freight exchange.

About the Role:

We want someone who can make our social channels the kind of accounts people actually follow on purpose. Think Ryanair's unhinged TikTok energy, Wendy's roasts, Brita's surreal animations, Airlearn's chaos. That sort of thing – but for a tech marketplace, an escrow platform and an Australian freight exchange.

This is not a "schedule posts and track engagement" role. You'll be responsible for conceiving and creating content that stops people scrolling – across all three brands and all four of our content pillars (Celebrate, Educate, Commentate and Captivate). But you'll own the Captivate pillar especially: the stunts, the shitposting, the irreverent takes that chase virality. That's the hardest pillar to execute. It requires genuine humour, speed and an instinct for what's about to land versus what's already over.

You'll work closely with the Director of Communications, the Motion Designer and the Communications Officer. When not producing content, you'll support the Social CX team by responding to customer feedback across our social media platforms.

Brevity is key across everything we post. Video is the preferred format. We don't accept low-quality footage – if the source material isn't great, we filter it, animate over it or make something better. Stock footage should be avoided where possible. AI should not be relied upon for generating copy; it can be used for proofreading and bullet points, but the writing needs to sound human.

What You'll Do

  • Create social media content (static, carousel and short-form video) across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, TikTok and YouTube for Freelancer, Escrow.com and Loadshift
  • Own the Captivate content pillar: develop and execute irreverent, topical and trend-driven content that builds brand personality and chases reach
  • Contribute to the Celebrate, Educate and Commentate pillars – sourcing stories from platform data, case studies and trending news
  • Adapt tone and style across three distinct brand voices: Freelancer (direct, no-BS, motivational), Escrow.com (premium, confident, trust-focused) and Loadshift (down-to-earth, Australian, industry-respectful)
  • Monitor social trends, memes and cultural moments – know when to jump on them and, more importantly, when not to
  • Engage directly with platform users to surface content opportunities and build community
  • Collaborate with the Motion Designer on video and animation briefs, and with the Communications Officer on earned and owned media content
  • Use existing Figma templates for Celebrate, Educate and Commentate posts; develop more free-form creative for Captivate
  • Maintain brand consistency across all visual and written content
  • Perform Social CX duties as required, including responding to customer complaints, questions and feedback on social media platforms


Requirements

We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years' experience in social media content creation, digital marketing or a similar role – with a portfolio that proves you can actually be funny, not just "engaging"
  • A genuine feel for internet culture, meme formats and what resonates with Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences. You consume this content natively, not as research
  • Proficiency in design tools (Canva, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite or similar)
  • Copywriting instincts – you can write a caption that doesn't read like a committee drafted it and doesn't sound like AI generated it
  • Basic photo and video production skills (smartphone-level is fine if the output is sharp and the ideas are strong)
  • Speed. Trends move fast and social newsjacking only works if you're early
  • Comfortable working across multiple brands with different audiences and tones
  • Experience with social media scheduling and analytics tools
  • Excellent written English

🌟 Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience working in a marketplace, tech or SaaS environment
  • Familiarity with freight, logistics or fintech industries
  • Experience with community management or customer support on social platforms
  • Basic motion graphics capability (After Effects, CapCut or similar)
  • A personal social media presence or side project that demonstrates creative range
