Senior Data Engineer

A leading travel client in Sydney currently has one data engineer, and she needs some support to add capacity to unlock value from their data platform. The team have a very modern data stack, work in a mature agile delivery process and have some extremely exciting projects on the horizon. The successful candidate will need to be self-sufficient so will be able to take a task and execute superbly. They will get the opportunity to work alongside a premier data team in Sydney and build some very valuable assets for an exciting Australian business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Understand source system data and effectively communicate any unforeseen challenges that could arise further downstream in the data platform
• Build data pipelines to move data out of source systems into a Cloud Data Warehouse (Snowflake)
• Utilise and enhance ingestion tools & patterns (AWS, Airbyte, Fivetran)
• Build SQL based logic to parse, transform and model data within the data warehouse
• Leverage there python experience where necessary to parse, transform, model and orchestrate data / data pipelines
• Understand what the business is trying to achieve with its data and create data models that enable the business to release that value
• Code review other team members SQL
• Communicate their progress, blockers and recommendations to team members

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years experience with cloud data warehouses
• Cloud data warehousing experience is essential, you will be well versed in BigQuery, Redshift or Snowflake
• You will be great at transforming raw data into useful data models that can be used to empower a business create value from its data assets
• SQL is your bread and butter, you will come with an advanced level of experience
• dBT experience is desirable but not essential
• You will know how to move data out of source systems into a cloud data warehouse and will preferably have experience using Airbyte, AWS & Fivetran
• Proactive and service focused approach
• Ability to multi-task and work comfortably within a team and fast pace environment
• Excellent communications skills, professional, enthusiastic and can do attitude
• Genuine interest and knowledge of travel / e-commerce industry
