Position Overview:


 


This position is for a Geotechnical Engineer who will perform geotechnical activities for the Poland AP1000 Project at the project site in Lubiatowo, Poland. The successful candidate will report to the lead field geotechnical engineer/geologist or their designee. The successful candidate must have strong teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and a commitment to quality. The successful candidate will be expected to provide full time support of subsurface investigation and earthwork activities at the site throughout the duration of the scope of work.


Responsibilities:


The work will require observing field work including field and onsite lab testing, drilling and sampling activities, attending meetings and coordinating with construction, earthwork contractor other engineering geologists/geotechnical engineers and/or client engineers in a team environment. Responsibilities include the scope described below.



  • Become familiar with the company specification(s), earthworks activities including compaction, bill of quantities and related subcontract documents.

  • Participate in scheduled training activities

  • Provide technical direction to subcontractors performing the work, as required

  • Observe field geotechnical activities and enforce technical and quality requirements

  • Assist with drafting of field instruction forms to resolve technical issues or provide clarification for work

  • Review field information provided by the subcontractor to ensure accuracy and compliance with company requirements

  • Communicate observations and site conditions to the lead field engineer/geologist

  • Coordinate work with the lead field engineer/geologist

  • Help coordinate work between multiple subcontractors and ensure consistency of information provided by different subcontractors

  • Review field and laboratory test results (density, gradation, moisture) and coordinate remediation of non-conforming areas with engineering and Construction.

  • Identify construction issues or deviations early and coordinate corrective actions with Construction, subcontractors, and home-office engineering.

  • Immediately elevate issues to the lead field engineer/geologist for resolution, if resolution is not reached with subcontractors performing the work

  • Assist with the preparation of company daily reports

  • Participate in site safety and plan of the day meetings, as scheduled

  • Be aware of and comply with safety requirements and reporting responsibilities

  • Assist with laboratory testing assignments of samples

  • Assist with any surveillance by the client or the Polish National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA), including presentation of samples and field work


 


Education Requirements:



  • A M.S. Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university or college and minimum 2 years of progressive related experience


 


Basic Qualifications:


 



  • Extensive experience related to overseeing and/or performing earthwork, subgrade preparation and compaction control, together with the associated field and laboratory testing.

  • Experience with Microsoft office programs, and other common computer programs



  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

  • Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.

  • Ability to communicate in English.


 Preferred Qualifications:



  • Fluency in English



  • Knowledge of Polish geology, preferably the geology around Lubiatowo



  • Polish certification as a Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer

  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (Polish and international) used in the nuclear industry

  • Demonstrable previous experience working on a large industrial EPC project

  • Experience with licensing, design, and construction of commercial nuclear power plants



  • Experience with nuclear quality programs

  • Experience working with procedures meeting nuclear quality assurance programs and occupational health and safety
