Job Description - Payroll Specialist

Are you ready to start your career in a growing company where your passion for data, numbers, and problem‑solving can make a real impact? Join us as a Payroll Data Analyst for the UK & Ireland, supporting accurate and reliable payroll data processing. In this role, you’ll work with payroll inputs, collaborate with internal teams and vendors, and help ensure data quality and compliance. You’ll gain hands‑on experience in analytics, compensation processes, and financial operations. This position is ideal for recent graduates or early‑career professionals eager to build skills in a supportive environment. If you’re detail‑oriented and excited to learn, we’d love to hear from you.

What You Will Do

As a Payroll Data Analyst for the UK & Ireland, you’ll play a key role in ensuring payroll data is accurate, consistent, and ready for smooth outsourced processing. You will analyze and maintain payroll datasets, support data quality improvements, and help optimize how information flows between systems and teams. Your work will contribute to reliable payroll outcomes and strengthen our reporting, compliance, and data management processes.

How You Will Do It

  • Work closely with our external payroll partners by preparing, validating, and delivering accurate data for each pay cycle.
  • Use Excel and analytical tools to update, structure, and verify monthly payroll inputs such as overtime, bonuses, and other variable data.
  • Review and audit payroll information to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies for the UK & Ireland.
  • Track and maintain employee lifecycle data—new hires, leavers, and job changes—to keep records complete and consistent.
  • Support correct application of deductions and benefits while ensuring compliance with UK & Ireland regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, respond to data‑related inquiries, and participate in audits and improvement projects to enhance payroll data processes.Top of Form

What We Look For

Required

  • A strong interest in working with data, numbers, or analytics—experience with payroll is welcome but not required
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage and structure information effectively
  • Confident written and spoken English for communicating data insights and clarifying inputs
  • Comfort using Microsoft Excel (you enjoy spreadsheets, data checks, and working with formulas)
  • A high level of accuracy, an analytical mindset, and a willingness to develop deeper data skills

Preferred

  • Any exposure to documenting processes, creating step‑by‑step instructions, or mapping data flows is a plus
  • Enthusiasm for participating in team projects, data clean‑ups, or process improvements
  • A degree in data analytics, finance, business, accounting, or a related field is an advantage (but not essential)
  • Experience working in an international or multicultural environment is helpful, but not required

What Will You Learn

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with industry-leading payroll and HR systems, building valuable skills that open doors for your future career. You’ll get to collaborate directly with our external partners, business units across the company, and colleagues from all over the UK & Ireland—expanding your network as you go. You will also have the opportunity to work on various improvement projects.

Our Culture

At Johnson Controls you’ll have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting projects in today’s market. Our hardworking people empower us, and we believe in being part of a team that is open, collaborative, results-oriented, hardworking and above all fun.

We believe that diversity and inclusion matter and make a difference. By embracing the true value of diversity and inclusion, getting comfortable with having crucial conversations, and valuing different perspectives, we will be one of the most desirable places to work.
