We are looking for a Peer Review Portfolio Manager, and you’ll be the driving force behind the success of a portfolio of journals—partnering closely with the Head of Department to hit ambitious strategic goals and measurable key results, from faster peer review times and higher acceptance performance to stronger customer satisfaction. You’ll shape and recommend portfolio strategy by streamlining workflows, safeguarding the quality and consistency of peer review operations, and keeping manuscripts moving smoothly through the pipeline—removing bottlenecks before they become barriers. Leading day-to-day portfolio delivery, you’ll support and coach Peer Review Managers, align teams across a complex matrix of stakeholders, and champion initiatives that improve efficiency, scalability, and collaboration. You’ll also represent the portfolio internally and externally—handling high-impact escalations from Chief Editors and VIP authors, monitoring progress weekly and monthly, taking corrective action when needed, and generating ideas that feed into future product development—all with one clear aim: better journal performance, a better author/editor experience, and a peer review process that runs with pace, clarity, and confidence.
- Aligns and collaborates with the Head of Department to ensure the overall success of a portfolio of journals through meeting strategic goals and key-results of the portfolio (peer review time, increase of acceptances, customer satisfaction).
- Recommends strategic plans and initiatives to the Head of Department for the development of the portfolio by streamlining the peer review process, ensuring the quality of peer review operations and successfully moving manuscripts through the peer review pipeline.
- Oversees the daily operations of the portfolio, providing timely support to the Review Operations Managers.
- Ensures portfolio-wide alignment and collaboration internally (among the Review Operations Managers and their teams) and across matrix teams.
- Collaborates with internal departments to ensure the efficiency and scalability of the portfolio operations.
- Represents the portfolio’s interests to internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversees key projects to improve portfolio efficiency, processes and inter team collaboration.
- Monitors progress towards targets (at the Portfolio level) including review time, acceptances (monthly and weekly) and customer satisfaction
- Leads team objectives and key results and defines strategies for reaching monthly and weekly objectives in collaboration with Review Operations Manager.
- Responsible for generating ideas for future Product Development
- Reporting into the Head of Review Operations and responsible for presenting the portfolio's development to them and the Director of Publishing Operations
- Recruit, on-board, coach and provide continued professional development to the Review Operations Managers within the portfolio.
- Represent the company to external stakeholders.

Autonomy in Problem solving
- Liaise with internal teams to ensure process alignment.
- Resolve key issues within the portfolio (e.g. matrix misalignment, False negative rejections)
- Main Lead for team objectives and key-results
- Main Lead for the strategic planning for the portfolio
- Take corrective measures on progress towards target(s)
- Answers to escalated Complaints and Inquiries from the Chief Editors and ‘VIP’ Authors
