Our client is seeking an experienced PHP developer to lead their migration from Symfony 3.4 to Symfony 5.x and PHP 7 to PHP 8.x. Position Overview

As a PHP Developer, you'll design, build, and test applications using modern Symfony 5.x and PHP 8.x frameworks. Your primary focus will be managing the migration of existing systems from legacy versions, ensuring smooth transitions whilst maintaining application stability and performance. You'll work within an agile environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality web applications that support the organisation's growth and technical objectives.

Responsibilities

• Design and build PHP web applications using Symfony 5.x framework with PHP 8.x


• Lead the migration strategy and execution from Symfony 3.4 to Symfony 5.x


• Manage the transition from PHP 7 to PHP 8.x, addressing compatibility and optimisation challenges


• Develop and execute comprehensive testing strategies for migrated applications


• Collaborate with team members using agile methodologies to deliver iterative improvements


• Document migration processes and best practices to support team knowledge sharing


• Identify and resolve technical challenges during framework and language upgrades

Requirements

• 6 to 8 years of professional PHP development experience


• Proven expertise in Symfony framework (ideally versions 3.4 and 5.x)


• Demonstrable experience leading or supporting application migrations


• Strong knowledge of PHP 7 and PHP 8, including version-specific features and changes


• Experience with CakePHP or similar PHP frameworks


• Solid understanding of agile development methodologies


• Ability to design, build, and test web applications to production standards


• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to code quality
