Job Description - Regional Controls and Automation Engineer

Description

The Regional Controls Engineer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, optimisation and lifecycle management of industrial automation and control systems across the EMEAI manufacturing network. The role partners with manufacturing sites and engineering stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable and innovative automation solutions that improve operational performance, quality, sustainability and business results.

This role offers the opportunity to influence automation strategy across a global manufacturing organisation, work with diverse technologies and contribute directly to safety, quality, sustainability and business performance. The role provides exposure to major capital projects, digital transformation initiatives and long-term career development opportunities within a high-performing engineering organisation.



Responsibilities

Automation Project Delivery

  • Lead automation and controls projects from concept through commissioning and operational handover.
  • Develop functional specifications and automation architectures.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, technical deliverables and supplier performance.

 

Manufacturing Reliability

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis support.
  • Improve equipment reliability and process performance.
  • Support critical production incidents and recovery activities 24/7 as required.

 

Automation Lifecycle Management

  • Develop technology roadmaps and obsolescence strategies.
  • Standardise automation platforms and engineering practices.
  • Support long-term asset lifecycle planning.

 

Industrial Cybersecurity

  • Support OT cybersecurity initiatives and compliance requirements.
  • Apply secure-by-design principles within control system environments.
  • Partner with IT and cybersecurity teams to mitigate operational risk.

 

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity and sustainability.
  • Support digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

 

Technical Leadership

  • Mentor engineers, technicians and contractors.
  • Develop standards, documentation and training resources.
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in automation, controls engineering or manufacturing engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering industrial automation projects.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chemical or batch manufacturing experience.
  • ISA-88 knowledge.
  • OT Cybersecurity experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Industrial networking and digital manufacturing experience.

 

Technical Expertise

  • Rockwell Automation platforms.
  • Siemens TIA Portal and related technologies.
  • PLC, HMI and SCADA development.
  • Industrial networking and systems integration.
  • AutoCAD and technical documentation.
  • Root cause analysis and reliability engineering.
