Position Overview
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll play a central role in designing, developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines that enable high-quality, reliable data for decision-making across the business. You'll work closely with data architects, product teams, analysts and data scientists to implement solutions that power analytics and reporting. A key focus will be migrating and automating Snowflake RBAC roles using configuration-driven approaches, ensuring data integrity and security compliance throughout. This position offers the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies and deliver data products that directly impact retail operations.
Responsibilities
- Extract and analyse existing RBAC roles and metadata from Snowflake environments
- Design configuration-driven approaches to manage RBAC roles using Git version control
- Develop Python scripts to automate role extraction, transformation, validation and deployment
- Build, optimise and maintain ETL pipelines from various sources ensuring data quality
- Monitor and troubleshoot production data pipelines for performance and reliability
- Write and optimise SQL queries ensuring integrity, performance and scalability
- Implement Data Vault models in Snowflake supporting large-scale analytics and BI
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers and data scientists on data-driven solutions
- Engage with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Implement data governance and quality processes ensuring accurate, consistent data flows
- Work with AWS/Azure and DBT to build and maintain scalable cloud data solutions
- Mentor junior engineers and lead technical discussions driving best practices
- Identify opportunities to improve data systems, processes and tools for efficiency
Requirements
- 8-10 years of experience in data engineering roles
- Deep understanding of Snowflake RBAC structure including roles, grants and privileges
- Strong proficiency in Python for automation and data processing tasks
- Advanced SQL and PL/SQL skills with query optimisation experience
- Hands-on experience with DBT for data transformation workflows
- Knowledge of AWS or Azure cloud platforms and data services
- Experience implementing ETL/ELT processes and data pipeline development
- Understanding of data modelling techniques including Data Vault methodology
- Familiarity with Git version control for configuration management
- Experience with data governance, quality assurance and security compliance
- Ability to mentor team members and lead technical discussions
- Strong collaboration skills working across technical and business teams
- Problem-solving mindset with focus on continuous improvement
