Senior Java Backend Engineer Enterprise Insurance Platforms | Spring Boot | B2B or UoP

Position: Mid/Senior Java Backend Engineer – Spring Boot & AI-Assisted Development
Remote working policy: Hybrid – three days in the office and two days remote after onboarding
Locations: Kraków, Gdańsk, Łódź or Poznań, Poland
Employment type: Full-time; B2B contract or employment contract (UoP)
Salary guide: Approximately EUR 55,000–70,000 annually, depending on experience and contract type (B2B or UoP). 

English at B2 level or higher and basic Polish at A1/A2 level are required. During onboarding, lasting up to three months, more frequent office attendance is expected.

About the company and project:
Our client is a multinational software company developing its own enterprise platforms for the insurance industry.

You’ll work with colleagues across Scandinavia, Belgium and Poland on systems covering the full policy lifecycle, claims, financial settlements, accounting and investment funds. These platforms process millions of operations each month, giving your engineering work a substantial production environment.

About the role:
If you enjoy building reliable Java services and want to broaden your skills without leaving backend engineering behind, this role offers a gradual route towards full-stack development.

You’ll start from a strong Java and Spring Boot foundation, designing services, APIs and integrations. Over time, you’ll contribute to Angular and TypeScript work as project needs arise, supported by an individual training and conference plan.

The team also uses AI agents in everyday development: preparing specifications, technical documentation and implementation plans, and supporting verification and testing. You’ll have the opportunity to develop practical experience with this specification-led approach.

What you’ll get to build and influence:

• Develop Java and Spring Boot services for financial, accounting, investment fund and claims processes


• Design and maintain high-performance REST APIs and integrations with external providers


• Contribute to architecture, design patterns and code quality through reviews and engineering discussions


• Work with document and relational databases, including MongoDB and PostgreSQL or Oracle


• Collaborate with business analysts, QA engineers, frontend developers and delivery colleagues


• Use AI-assisted workflows for specifications, planning, documentation and testing


• Gradually expand into Angular and TypeScript while retaining a strong backend focus

What we’re looking for:

• At least five years of commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot


• Experience designing and building REST APIs


• Practical experience with both document and relational databases


• Strong understanding of SOLID principles, Clean Code and maintainable software design


• Willingness to learn and contribute to Angular and TypeScript development


• Openness to using AI tools within a specification-led engineering workflow


• English at B2 level or higher


• Basic Polish at A1/A2 level


• Availability to work from one of the four Polish offices under the stated hybrid arrangement

Additional experience that would be valuable:

• Docker


• Elasticsearch and Kibana


• Domain-Driven Design or Event-Driven Architecture


• Insurance products, claims processes or financial-sector regulations
