Software Development Engineer in Test

We are looking for a skilled, code-driven Software Development Engineer in Test to join our client’s team.

Their collateral exchange platform is used by leading institutions in the financial sector. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the platform meets the functional, security, resilience, and confidentiality requirements of clients operating in a regulated environment by building robust automated test suites and infrastructure.

The platform is built on a modern technology stack that includes Kotlin, Spring Boot, ActiveMQ, Gradle, Ansible, Docker, and Canton. It comprises message-driven components, REST APIs, distributed ledger nodes, and relational databases.

Location: EU countries, remotely

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks and test suites for complex, distributed software systems


• Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of test infrastructure, including stubs, simulators, test harnesses, and automated environment-level tooling


• Develop automated tests for functional and integration testing of internal microservices, external interfaces, and asynchronous workflows


• Coordinate and execute end-to-end and cross-party automation testing, collaborating with external stakeholders and counterparties


• Assist in scripting and executing non-functional testing, including performance, resilience, failover, and recovery scenarios


• Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline to ensure continuous quality and rapid feedback loops


• Collaborate closely with development (Java/Kotlin), DevOps, and product teams to analyze requirements, isolate defects, and ensure high-quality software delivery


• Continuously improve testing automation processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance test coverage and efficiency

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, with a solid grounding in computer science fundamentals (databases, concurrency, distributed systems, and security)


• Fluent English communication skills


• 6+ years of experience in Java development and test automation.


• Demonstrable experience testing complex, distributed systems with components communicating via REST APIs, message queues, and asynchronous workflows


• Proficient with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Cucumber, JUnit, TestNG, RestAssured, or similar)


• Experience in writing, designing, and maintaining non-trivial test infrastructure, such as stubs, simulators, test harnesses, or environment-level test tooling


• Familiarity with modern backend tooling and infrastructure, including Docker, Gradle/Maven, and relational databases


• A strong QA mindset combined with a developer's engineering approach, ensuring clean and maintainable test code

• Proactive mindset with strong critical-thinking skills, and the ability to identify and articulate quality risks early.


• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, high-assurance environment and adapt to change.
  


• Excellent written and oral communication skills in a professional, technical context.
