What's the opportunity about?

We are looking for a backend engineer to build, scale and maintain services at Unbabel.

Unbabel engineers drive things forward and get things done. Our engineers build features today that users will use tomorrow. You must be ready to firefight against scaling or design challenges in real-time. You must not waiver in the face of highly complex mishmashes of microservices that need untangling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve current services and APIs
• Designing and implementing reliable architectures and services
• Writing reusable, testable, and efficient code
• Performing task breakdown and prioritization of software development-related activities
• Maintaining and supporting production services, including alarming, metrics, runbooks
• Contributing to a culture of self-improvement and high standards of quality
• Mentoring other engineers and helping them grow

Requirements

Must have

• Experience in writing clean, concise, testable, and maintainable code using Go and/or Python programming language;
• Experience in implementing microservices;
• Experience in test automation frameworks, optimising performance and security enabling delivery of robust and maintainable architecture;
• Experience working in an Agile software engineering environment.

Nice to have

• Experience using gRPC protocols;
• Experience with Kubernetes;
• Experience building, operating, and truly owning services. Implementing alerting, metrics, and logging using Prometheus, Kibana, PagerDuty.
• DevOps experience (AWS preferred) architecting, configuring cloud technology stacks (Compute, Network Security, API Gateways, VPCs, CDNs, Kafka/MKS, Kubernetes, CI/CD configurations etc.
• Understanding of AWS (S3, SQS, etc), terraform + Kubernetes.
