About Northern Health:

As an organisation we have a clear focus on how we service and partner with our community, including our strategy of helping the community stay well when at home. Our reputation of community minded, inclusive and progressive is matched to none.

Northern Health is located in the rapidly growing northern suburbs with projected growth the biggest in the state. With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hour’s drive from the CBD (still within the bounds of Myki and ride-sharing), Melbourne’s North is fast becoming the place to be.

Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Registrar to join the Paediatric Inpatient team.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

Paediatric Registrar Position - 2026 - Fixed term part time 43 hours per fortnight from August 2026 to February 2027

Come and join the Paediatric team at Northern Health, and gain fantastic exposure to Paediatric medicine in one of Melbourne’s rapidly growing northern growth corridor. Northern Health provides healthcare to a population of over 580,000 people and in the Paediatric Department we care for general paediatric medical and neonatal patients.

The service includes:

  • A Neonatal Unit with twenty-one cots, which provides high dependency neonatal care with a level five capability. There is always a neonatologist covering, and we manage TPN, chest drainage and ROP screening. There are more than 3,600 infants born annually by the obstetric service

  • A Children’s Unit containing twenty-two beds and caters for paediatric medical and paediatric surgical patients. There are plans on establishing a Paediatric HDU in the Children’s ward.

Northern Health is committed to medical education & training through the Teaching, Training & Research Precinct - a joint venture with The University of Melbourne, La Trobe University and the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.

There are 5 general Paediatric consultants and five dual trained consultant neonatologists. The paediatric unit is an excellent environment to learn General Paediatrics and Neonatal Medicine. Registrars are involved in admitting patients from ED, attending high-risk newborn deliveries and reviewing infants on the post-natal ward with close supervision and support. The unit has regular rostered paediatric and neonatal teaching sessions for registrars and HMOs as well as a weekly paediatric unit clinical meeting.
