Automation Engineer (Control & Drives)

This position, located in Lousado (Portugal), is a replacement position in our local Manufacturing Technology Engineering Department.

The main purpose of this new position is to create competencies and resources to increase the knowledge in Controls & Drives (C&D), robotization/digitalization and the ability to develop equipment/technology at Continental converters plants and also to ensure cybersecurity activities to mitigate the risk of machine breakdowns at the shopfloor level.

Main activities includes:

• Ensure that the IPCs from the machines are updated with the software's (including updates) and requirements defined by the central IT;
• Perform backups, upgrades and modifications to the necessary production equipment;
• Contribute to ensure that the shopfloor is cybersecure.
• Participate in projects outside automation area.
• Follow up automation/robotization projects and subsequently carry out the necessary interventions to keep them in operation;
• Adapt equipment and systems to integrate them into the new digitalization processes;

• University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics and Electrical or similar field of studies;
• Minimum experience of 1 year in Industrial environment in Controls & Drives areas (preferably);
• Knowledge in automation programming (Omron / Siemens) and field bus, PLC programming and Safety PLC programming;
• Knowledge of Scada systems;
• Knowledge in frequency converters and motion control;
• Technical knowledge of Controls & Drives and Industrial;
• Software Network & IT Systems is valuable;
• Ability to solve problems, plan and organize actions;
• Good communication and teamwork skills;
• Initiative and proactivity;
• Resilience and enjoyment of working in a multidisciplinary team;
• Solid knowledge of the English language.
