Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated Medical Laboratory Assistants to join the Northern Pathology team at Northern Health, Epping in a Part-Time (0.4 EFT) Capacity.


 


Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.


 


Services are provided through our six main campuses:


Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals, and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.


 


About the Role:


The role is involved in the provision of accurate and timely Biochemistry results at Northern Pathology Victoria (NPV) for optimised patient outcomes.  


 


All tasks are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the values, quality objectives, performance goals, delegations, policies, procedures, and operations of NPV and in line with the Northern Health “Code of Conduct”.


 


Major duties and/or responsibilities are outlined in the scope of the position description, including inventory management and laboratory organisation. The incumbent may be required to perform other job-related duties as delegated by the Principal and Senior Scientists.


 


Previous experience in a diagnostic Biochemistry laboratory is highly desirable.


 


The role is responsible for:



  • Performing a wide range of diagnostic Biochemistry tests using automated and manual methods.

  • Performing duties in accordance with documented methods, work instructions and standard operating procedures.

  • Participating in a seven-day rotating roster, including public holidays, as operationally required.


 


To be successful in this role you will:



  • Have gained a Certificate or Diploma of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory) qualification, or equivalent.

  • Understand the importance of Pathology’s role in providing outstanding patient care.

  • Demonstrate a team-focused, self-motivated and reliable modus operandi with an attention to detail.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Laboratory Information System software, particularly Ultra.

  • Capable of performing laboratory investigations, instrument operation and maintenance.

  • Understand quality management systems including the principles of quality control and quality assurance.

  • Be aware of NPAAC, NATA sand ISO standards and guidelines.
