Head of Legal (ENG)

We are looking for a sole Head of Legal  to join our team in Portugal, providing legal advice on our operations in the electricity (and possible future gas) sector. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in energy and commercial law, regulatory compliance and commercial risk management, with the ability to advise on contracts, corporate governance and regulatory issues in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment. The ideal candidate must also be familiar with, and have experience in Compliance, as they will be responsible for leading all issues related to the legal area across the board, being the only legal professional in the area working at Audax Portugal. You will need to have excellent communication skills, the ability to innovate, take the initiative and prioritize. A strong ability to take control and meet demanding and challenging deadlines are essential to ensure success in the role.

Academic Requirements:

- Law degree.

Requirements:

•             at least 7 years of experience in general and at least 3 years of experience in energy law, preferably in a law firm or in the legal team of an energy company.

•             Knowledge of Portugal energy regulation, especially in the electricity market.

•             Experience in interacting with regulatory bodies such as the ERSE, the Courts and Arbitration Centers and EU energy regulations.

•             Strong negotiation and contractual drafting skills.

•             Ability to work in a dynamic environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

I) Knowledge and experience in compliance matters, knowledge of ISO 37301 - Certification of compliance management systems is highly valued;

- Be able to accompany, guide and resolve employee queries on issues related to compliance and ethical conduct.

Duties:

• Commercial Law: advising on our day-to-day operation, in particular vis-á-vis our clients and counterparties;


• Regulatory Compliance: ensuring that the company complies with Portugal and EU energy regulations, including market rules, licensing and environmental requirements.


• Contract Management: Drafting, reviewing and negotiating power purchase agreements, grid connection contracts and supply agreements.


• Corporate and Commercial Law: Advising on corporate governance


• Complaint, Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Identifying and managing legal risks, monitoring disputes and supporting alternative dispute resolution strategies, managing customer and third party complaints.


• Regulatory and Stakeholder Relations: Interaction with regulatory authorities, industry bodies and government entities on policy and compliance matters.


• Risk Assessment: Identifying and mitigating legal risks related to operations, investments and business strategy.


• Monitoring and disseminating the Audax Portugal Group's Compliance program;


• Managing the company's complaints channel: analyzing, managing and resolving any complaints received from start to finish, in conjunction with the Compliance area.

Language requirements:

- Portuguese: Native.

- Spanish: Fluent.

- English: Fluency is valued.
