Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

Mental Health Division - Nothern Health

Are you an experienced psychologist looking for an opportunity to influence professional practice, support the psychology workforce, and contribute to high-quality mental health care?

Northern Health is seeking a highly skilled and motivated psychologist to undertake the role of Professional Lead Psychology within the Mental Health Division.

This fixed-term leadership opportunity offers the chance to work alongside senior psychology and operational leaders to support excellence in psychology practice, workforce development, clinical governance, and staff wellbeing across Adult Mental Health Services.

As a member of the Psychology Leadership Team, you will work closely with the Director of Psychology, Principal Clinical Lead, and Psychology Clinical Educators to support psychologists across a range of community, rehabilitation, and inpatient mental health settings.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the psychology profession while helping to foster a positive, resilient, and psychologically safe workforce.

About the Role:

The Professional Lead Psychology provides professional leadership and discipline-specific oversight to psychologists across Northern Health Adult Mental Health Services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing professional leadership, consultation, and support to the psychology workforce.


• Supporting the Psychology Early Career Program, provisional psychologists, psychology registrars, and student placements.


• Promoting excellence in psychology practice through supervision, mentoring, and professional development initiatives.


• Contributing to workforce planning, recruitment, capability development, and professional support of psychologists.


• Representing psychology within governance, quality, risk management, and service development forums.


• Attending and contributing to Quality and Risk Management meetings across community and bed-based mental health services.


• Providing leadership and oversight of the Mental Health Division Staff Incident and Wellbeing Response Program.


• Supporting initiatives that enhance workforce wellbeing, resilience, and psychological safety.


• Contributing to quality improvement, service evaluation, research, and evidence-based practice activities.


• Providing specialist clinical consultation and, where required, direct clinical assessment and intervention for consumers with complex mental health presentations.

This is part time - 40 hours per fortnight fixed term role till March 2027.

About You:

You are an experienced and respected psychologist with a passion for professional leadership, workforce development, and mental health service excellence.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Endorsement in Clinical Psychology, Forensic Psychology, or Clinical Neuropsychology with AHPRA.


• Approved Psychology Board of Australia Supervisor status.


• Extensive experience working within public mental health settings.


• Demonstrated experience providing supervision, mentoring, and professional leadership to psychologists.


• Strong knowledge of contemporary mental health practice, clinical governance, and professional standards.


• Experience contributing to quality improvement, research, evaluation, or service development initiatives.


• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills.


• A commitment to fostering workforce wellbeing, psychological safety, and a positive workplace culture.
