About the Job

On our path to becoming the most visited online curated marketplace for special objects, our Engineering team is on a mission to deliver the best experience across our platforms by building best-in-class products for search & discovery, bidding, curation, logistics, payments, and support. 

We're a scale-up with customer-facing challenges dealing with high-scale (75k auctions per week) and high traffic (more than 10 million visitors per month).

As a Software Engineer, you’ll support one of our 3 verticals - Demand, Supply, or Fulfilment - improving and delivering product innovations for our platform. Are you ready to join? 

What you will do Here at Catawiki, you will make an impact by improving and delivering product innovations for the Catawiki platform. 
You will build scalable microservices with other Development team members while measuring and monitoring system performance. In addition, you will use experimentation, backed by data analysis, to add product features and deliver the best user experience on the platform. 

Main requirements

What you’ll bring

We look for engineers motivated to learn new things, ship new features, and pursue new and interesting challenges. Our stack is mainly focused around Ruby, however, if you’re passionate about learning new things then prior experience with Ruby is not essential. Next to this:

• At least 7+ years of experience in software development, in specific with OOP (object-oriented programming);
• You have experience designing, implementing, and deploying backend services focusing on high availability, low latency, and consistency;
• You have proven experience collaborating closely with other engineers to become a valued autonomous, cross-functional team member;
• You have mentored junior engineers and you enjoy cooperating with engineers throughout the company;
• You understand the value you can add to the business, the product, and the impact of your work on customers;
• You feel comfortable documenting RFCS and describing problems, opportunities, pros and cons of solution alternatives.

Our offices and way of working

We have sensational offices in Amsterdam, Groningen, Paris and our newest office in Lisbon. Most of our employees are within commutable distance of one of our office locations and enjoy a hybrid work model. This means we expect you to be in the office 2 out of 5 days, roughly 40% of your working time, to collaborate and connect with each other.
