Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Grade 4 Social Workers to join the Ward 8 Acute Adult Mental Health Unit at The Northern Hospital, Epping in a fixed term, part time basis (0.4EFT) until November 2026.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our six main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.
About Mental Health Division:
Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.
Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.
We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.
About the Role:
This Grade 4 Social Worker role is based within Ward 8, a mixed-gender acute adult inpatient mental health unit, which provides recovery focussed, trauma informed care for consumers aged between 18- 64, who are in need of acute support to make their next steps forward in their mental health journey.
This position is located at The Northern Hospital at 185 Cooper Street, Epping. This role will also involve supporting and working for Ward 7 and Ward 23- two adult mental health units operating from the same campus, when needed.

As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Social Worker will provide professional social work services, including accommodation referrals and assistance, psychosocial assessment, assistance with payments and Centrelink, social case work, discharge planning, work with families and carers, and community liaison work, while gaining specialist skills and experience in assessment, acute treatment and support and other interventions for people with mental health concerns and their family/carers.
This role is available on a fixed term basis until November 2026, at a 0.4 (2 days per week) basis.
