Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Speech Pathologists with an interest in subacute care to join our dynamic Speech Pathology team. 


 


This fixed-term position offers flexibility, with both part-time and full-time applicants encouraged to apply. Experienced grade 1s and new to grade 2 applicants also considered.   


 


Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.


 


Services are provided through our six main campuses:


Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals, and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.


 


About the Role:


An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and enthusiastic Grade 2 Speech Pathologist to join Northern Health’s supportive and dynamic Speech Pathology team in a fixed-term role within the subacute outpatient setting. 


 


Working within a collaborative and well-supported environment, you will provide evidence-based assessment and intervention for adults with communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. The service is supported by access to instrumental swallowing assessments, including Videofluoroscopy (VFSS) and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), to guide high-quality clinical decisionmaking. The role involves working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to support safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.


 


The successful applicant will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care. The role also offers opportunities to contribute to instrumental swallowing assessment services, clinical education through student and staff supervision, quality improvement activities, and service development initiatives across Northern Health.


 


Supported by a strong and well-established supervision framework, this position provides structured professional support, reflective practice opportunities, and ongoing professional development to foster clinical excellence and career growth.


 


This role is responsible for:



  • Delivering high-quality speech pathology assessment and intervention services to adult patients in an outpatient setting.  

  • Participating in instrumental swallowing assessment services as required.

  • Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care.

  • Supporting student education and junior staff development. 

  • Contributing to quality improvement, research, and service development initiatives.

  • Engaging in professional development and career progression opportunities within a large and growing health service.


 


To be successful in this role you will have:



  • Demonstrated experience in the management of adult swallowing and communication disorders.

  • Experience and competency in instrumental swallowing assessments.

  • Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, teach, and support students and/or junior clinicians.

  • Well-developed interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.

  • Demonstrate strong clinical reasoning, flexibility, and effective time management in a busy clinical environment.

  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous improvement, and professional development.

  • Eligibility for practising membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
