Location: Offshore Qatar
Employer: Drilling Contractor (e.g., Shelf Drilling, Borr Drilling,
ADES, Valaris) or Marine Service Provider
Rotation: 35 days on / 35 days off (Standard offshore
rotation in Qatar)
Job Description:
The Radio Operator is
responsible for maintaining all radio communications between the offshore rig,
supply vessels, helicopters, and onshore support teams, ensuring safe and
efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Communication Management
· Operate and
monitor VHF, HF, and satellite communication systems for rig
operations.
· Relay messages
between rig crew, vessels, helicopters, and onshore teams.
· Maintain emergency
communication channels 24/7.
2. Safety & Emergency Coordination
· Serve as the primary
contact for emergency broadcasts (man overboard, medical
evacuation, etc.).
· Coordinate with Qatar
Coast Guard, supply boats, and helicopters during emergencies.
· Conduct daily
radio checks and equipment tests.
3. Log keeping & Reporting
· Record all
incoming/outgoing communications in the radio logbook.
· File daily
reports on communication activities.
· Ensure compliance
with maritime and aviation radio regulations.
4. Equipment Maintenance
· Perform basic
troubleshooting of radio and communication equipment.
· Report faults to electronics
technicians for repairs.
Experience:
· Minimum 2+
years as a Radio Operator (offshore/maritime preferred).
· Familiarity with GMDSS
(Global Maritime Distress and Safety System).
Certifications:
· BOSIET/FOET
with HUET (Mandatory for
offshore Qatar).
· GMDSS
Radio Operator License (Required
by international maritime law).
· H2S
Awareness & Basic Firefighting (Often required).
Skills:
· Fluent in English (Arabic
is a plus).
· Strong communication,
multitasking, and crisis response skills.
