Key Roles & Responsibilities
Legal Advisory and Analysis:
• Prepare legal memoranda analysing legal and maritime business issues and provide recommendations.
• Offer legal advice and counsel to maritime and offshore business unit personnel on contractual transactions, tenders, and terms.
• Review, draft, amend, and negotiate legal aspects of contracts, charter-parties, agreements, etc., ensuring adherence to contractual terms and conditions.
• Provide ad-hoc advice on specified legal topics concerning maritime and offshore business units, including maritime laws, port and crew issues, and agency matters.
• Engage in legal research related to maritime and offshore sectors and provide analysis and advice on potential legal risks and liabilities.
Contract Management and Compliance:
• Review and analyse tenders and documents, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
• Evaluate, appoint, and manage external counsel or consultancy firms for transactional or advisory work.
• Implement legal processes to safeguard the company's interests and propose necessary amendments.
• Advise on maritime safety standards and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
• Comply with all Milaha Health & Safety, Security, Environment and Quality policies, manuals, procedures, laws, regulations and standards; Advice on maritime safety standards on board vessels and on ports.
Regulatory Monitoring and Reporting:
• Monitor local legislations and regulations affecting operations and business units.
• Submit regular reports with recommendations to the General Counsel regarding legal and regulatory matters.
Leadership, Training, and Development:
• Provide leadership, supervision, training, and development for the legal department staff.
• Participate in establishing and implementing training programs as necessary.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Education & Professional Qualification:
Bachelor Degree in Law or equivalent
Professional Experience:
8 - 10 years of experience in area of Shipping Practice out of which 2-3 years in an in-house counsel role.
Bar Admission: Common Law License (eg. U.K., U.S., Australia, India etc.)
Geographic Experience:
Fully conversant with maritime laws of UK and similar regulations globally. Be able to locate and interpret the applicable laws and judgements.
Computer Skills:
Good knowledge of Office and web applications
Language Skills:
Business Fluent English. Arabic skills desirable
Market/Industry/Functional Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of local and international maritime laws and regulations
Strong knowledge of admiralty law, UN maritime conventions, port state regulations, employment laws, and O&G chartering practice.
Strong knowledge of contract management, tender management, legal risks management and administration processes
