JobOverview:

Perform conceptual FEED anddetailed analyses and design as per design basis projectspecifications design codes and standards. Apply indepth skills andbroad knowledge of the business to address complex problems andnonstandard situations. Prepare clear and accurate detailed designcalculations and analyses including design reports and procedures.Manage own time to meet objectives and (as Lead Engineer) forecastand plan resource requirements. Clearly communicate and explaindifficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point of view.

When acting as Lead Engineer in addition:Direct small or medium Mechanical Engineering team as a LeadEngineer. Lead the Discipline engineering design of the assignedwork area and complete within planned schedule and budget inaccordance with standards MDR and project specific procedures andto a high professional standard. Plan organize and direct allaspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project includingscope deliverables schedule and all manpower resources agreeallocations with the Discipline Manager. Ensure interfaces anddeliverables are clearly identified. Maintain responsibility forprogress and productivity identifying any required correctiveaction. Act as project representative for the Discipline duringmeetings with Project Team Customer discipline lead and relevantagencies such as certifying authorities auditors third partiesetc.



Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Become fully familiar with the project scope of workspecifications schedule and all interdiscipline requirements;including identifying concerns as early as practicable and takingappropriate initiatives to address the issues. Interpretcontractual requirements as they relate to engineering execution
  • Identify changes to scope and promptly raisechange notifications including providing any necessary supportingdocumentation and estimates. Provide similar support for VariationOrders
  • Interface with all disciplines todevelop clash free designs
  • Interface withother departments to obtain input for Discipline designs anddrawings
  • Maintain close coordination withother engineering disciplines Planning and Project Management Teamas required
  • Document substantivecommunications (communications that result in significant decisionsor assignment of actions) and forward copies to Discipline LeadEngineer and Discipline Manager
  • Prepareestimates for bid proposals including technical query reviewsexecution statements and manhour estimates identifying softwarerequirements and any other projectspecific requirements
  • Raise technical queries to obtain missing informationclarify work scope and to maintain preferred McDermott proceduresspecifications standards practices and operational requirements
  • Prepare review and (as Lead Engineer) approveDiscipline engineering design basis philosophies and technicalspecifications
  • Participate in finalizingdeliverables lists and deliverables ensuring compliance withspecifications and functional integrity
  • Review project schedule and fabrication schedule inrelation to construction sequence milestones and engineering scope
  • Attend project kickoff and review meetingsvendor meetings engineering meetings and site surveys as required
  • Provide technical direction and review ofDesigners producing products related to Mechanical Engineering.Prepare review and (as Lead Engineer) approve design reports andprocedures
  • Assist in providing necessarydesign inputs to other disciplines to enable them in proceedingwith their deliverables
  • Assist procurementpersonnel in procuring Discipline equipment materials and services;ensuring that work produced complies with Customer objectives andprocedures. Procurement assistance includes preparing reviewing and(as Lead Engineer) approving requisitions evaluating technicalquotations and preparing queries compiling bid tabulations andrecommendations preparing purchase requisitions and coordinatingwith Procurement to expedite vendor documents as directed byDiscipline Lead Engineer
  • Assist in updatingweight report based on receipt of vendor information
  • Review and (as Lead Engineer) approve vendor andsubcontractor submittals checking for compliance with projectspecifications and providing comments as necessary
  • Review and (as Lead Engineer) approve design verificationthrough singlediscipline check/ inter discipline check (IDC)
  • Provide technical support to fabricationqueries
  • Keep the Discipline Manager andProject Management Team apprised of all activities and concernstechnical budgetary and manpower related
  • Assist in providing inputs for actual planning andforecasting progress reports including associated productivity
  • Check final subcontractor and vendor datamanuals to ensure that all requested data has been received andapproved
  • Present issues and problems toCustomers in a timely manner and assist Lead Engineer innegotiating resolution in accordance with project and companyrequirements
  • Perform (as required) TechnicalQuality Audit reviews in accordance with MOR Global Procedures
  • Assist Lead Engineer with responses toCustomer and other agencies (such as certifying authoritiesauditors third parties etc.) on their review and approval
  • Capture lessons learned and enter into MDRsLessons Learned system
  • Guide less experiencedengineers on MOR and Discipline procedures standards worksheetsdesign calculations software requisitions technical bid evaluationstechnical queries etc.
  • Supervise and guideassigned engineers and coordinate with project Lead Designers forDiscipline engineering and design deliverables
  • Monitor costs of own work processes
  • Assist in the maintenance of departmental technicalguidelines
  • Participate in development andmaintenance of Global Procedures Software and Standards
  • May participate in standards development committees ortask groups
  • Develop communication andpresentation skills (e.g. write technical papers participate inconferences and/or seminars present design solutions etc.)
  • Identify and provide training to staff inspecific techniques and proprietary software
  • Provide information on employee performance to theDiscipline Manager
  • Assist Discipline managerin interviewing job applicants
  • Check/ Prepareand (as Lead Engineer) Approve Mechanical equipment list spareparts list special tools list
  • Check/ Prepare/Participate in Approval of detailed engineering documents/deliverables such as:
  • Mechanical EquipmentSpecifications and datasheets
  • Mechanicalhandling philosophy report and associated requisitioning forhandling equipment
  • Noise report prepared byConsultant to ensure it complies with Project requirements
  • Lubrication schedule spare parts schedule
  • Assist with equipment inspection and testing
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing ofvarious items as assigned
  • Identify vendorassistance for installation precommissioning and commissioningpurposes
  • Update electrical load listP&IDs and equipment lists based on receipt of vendorinformation
  • Participate in HAZOP meetings asnecessary
  • Participate in 3D model reviews asnecessary
  • Provide inputs to Piping Designincluding package/equipment supplier data
  • When acting as Lead Engineer in addition:
  • Identify project staff needs based on knowledge ofindividual engineers skill sets and provide requests to theDiscipline manager
  • Act as projectbasedDiscipline point of contact in communications and meetings withCustomer counterparts
  • Ensure substantivecommunications are documented
  • Prepare bidsand projects Discipline engineering budget and execution plansupdating as required
  • Identify project staffneeds based on knowledge of individual engineers skill sets andprovide requests to the Discipline manager
  • Plan organize and assign tasks responsibilities andmanhour budgets to the discipline team and verify tasks arecompleted within budgets
  • Plan DisciplineLevel 4 detail deliverable schedule/ register compliant with theoverall execution plan
  • Prepare workingforecasts identifying change management plans corrective action andreal time schedule
  • Provide Discipline inputsfor actual planning and forecasting progress reports includingassociated productivity
  • Alert project team ofany deviation from the scope or a need for change order
  • Monitor progress measurement results and take correctiveaction as necessary to improve Discipline performance includingperformance at interfaces with others
  • Coordinate with other Discipline Lead Engineers andDesigners to ensure timely receipt of necessary design inputs
  • Review and approve requisitions technicalquotation evaluations and queries compiled bid tabulations andrecommendations and purchase requisitions; and coordinate withProcurement to expedite vendor documents as required
  • Lead the Discipline team during project audits (internalCustomer and third party technical audits) and Design Reviews
  • Review comments from Customers &other agencies on documents and drawings produced by the team andresolve and give guidance on their update and incorporation
  • Assist Discipline manager in the preparationof quarterly forecasts and manpower planning
  • Anticipate project engineering needs and plan accordingly
  • Coordinate with vendor for disciplinemanaged/procured items
  • Assist Disciplinemanager and Project Engineering Manager or Project Manager inPerformance Evaluation of project team members
  • Check and Approve Mechanical equipment list spare partslist special tools list
  • Check and Participatein Approval of detailed engineering documents / deliverables suchas:
    • Mechanical Equipment Specifications anddatasheets
    • Mechanical handling philosophyreport and associated requisitioning for handling equipment
    • Noise report prepared by Consultant to ensureit complies with Project requirements
    • Lubrication schedule spare parts schedule

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 1520 yrs. in oil and gaswith major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detaildesign
  • 10 years offshore projects experience
  • Static and package engineering experience isessential
  • Bachelor Degree or Master Degree inEngineering
  • Detailed knowledge of designtechniques and analysis methods and detailed knowledge of thetheory content and application of standards codes and guidelines asapplicable for Mechanical Equipment. Knowledgeable in projectcoordination and execution skills

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Preferably RegisteredProfessional Engineer or member of professional engineering societyas applicable
  • Seasoned structural knowledge
  • Very good organizer motivator and supervisor
  • Able to solve problems without assistance
  • Keen on improving effectiveness of the work
  • HSE TQM and cost conscious
  • Fluent in English language
  • Understanding and supporting company goals and workprocesses
  • Show flexibility and ensure properhandover with regards to:
    • The reassignment toother McDermott offices
    • The replacement ofcolleagues during illness and holidays
    • Theprovision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workload(also other projects) when possible/desirable
    • Themanaging/learning of future current working methods and softwareapplications
