Credit Controller

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Credit controller oversees the company’s incoming collections, assesses creditworthiness of existing and new customers, sets credit policies, drives the customer credit approval process and manages bad debt losses. The credit controller will supervise a team of credit controllers that are stationed internationally in their respective regions across the GCC.

This is a critical end-to-end role which requires a mix of strong interpersonal skills, vast experience in all contractual & legal aspects of the (sub)contracting industry, advanced people management skills, and a thorough understanding of risk management and financial controls. An understanding of the fundamentals of IFRS, Treasury Management and Quantity Surveying is required, with a demonstrated knowledge of revenue recognition, revenue accrual and bad deb provisioning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supervisory/Management Duties:

• Manage a team of credit controllers based in different GCC locations across the group.
• Responsible for training, managing and providing guidance to the credit control team.
• Liaise with country managers, project managers, quantity surveyors and senior management on debt and collections related matters.
• Report to the Finance Director and Senior Management weekly on collection status, collections forecast and any other debt-related matters.
• Ensure that escalation mechanisms are put in place and followed through for any matters that may materially affect the liquidity position of the company.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Review, update and analyze the debtor’s ledger and collections daily.
• Manage the credit evaluation and risk policy, credit application policy and legal proceedings policy.
• Comply with and executes bad debt policies and procedures.
• Maintain the company’s bad debt provisions demonstrating an understanding of the associated accounting principles.
• Ensure that credit policies are understood by any customer facing coworker.
• Ensure that credit risk is controlled, cash collection is maximized and that monthly targets are met.
• Report weekly invoicing, aging and collections to the Financial Director and attend customer meetings to resolve invoice, credit and collection queries.
• Issue reminder letters and initiate legal proceedings, as per the applicable procedures.
• Act as the focal point for any debtors related legal proceedings.
• Assist the finance team with the month-end closing process for all debtor-related matters.
• Assist the external and internal auditors, for any debtor-related matters.
• Understand the company’s Project Application, Project Certification processes and reporting.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, Law, Quantity Surveying or related field.
• Have significant experience in an end-to-end Credit Control role within a complex contracting environment, where the performance obligations of the company can span anything between a few days and multiple years.
• Conduct periodical travel to customer sites across the GCC and commute between Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices.
• Excellent management and supervisory skills, prior experience leading a small team.
• Minimum of 7 years post-graduation experience.
• Prior exposure to a Tier 1 ERP accounting system (Oracle, SAP, Ms Dynamics…) is desired.
• Oil & gas, construction, contracting, infrastructure or project sector experience is a plus.
