Job Description - Lead Instrument & Electrical Engineer

Job Purpose / Objective

Develop, lead, and implement reliability improvement initiatives, strategies, and roadmaps to enhance the reliability and integrity of Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) assets across plant operations. The role is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could adversely impact asset performance, plant safety, or business continuity through fault elimination, risk management, life -cycle asset management, and performance monitoring.

As the functional lead, provide technical and administrative leadership to I&E Reliability Engineers and Technicians, ensuring effective execution of reliability programs and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

People Management

  • Act as the technical authority, providing high -level guidance and decision support to the team.

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of direct reports to ensure alignment with business plans, objectives, and departmental procedures.

  • Identify capability gaps and recommend appropriate training and development initiatives to enhance team performance.

Instrument & Electrical Asset Integrity Management

  • Lead technical efforts to ensure the integrity and long -term reliability of all I&E assets.

  • Develop and implement short - and long -term reliability plans using failure analysis, life -cycle data, historical records, and performance metrics.

  • Lead plant -wide Reliability Improvement Teams (RITs) and associated initiatives.

  • Apply proactive reliability methodologies, including:

    • Criticality ranking

    • Bad actor identification

    • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)

    • Reliability -Centered Maintenance (RCM)

  • Lead RCAs within the I&E discipline, including reporting, recommendations, and implementation follow -up.

  • Lead planning, development, documentation, and institutionalization of Instrumented Protective Systems (IPS) work processes in compliance with IEC 61511 / ISA -84 and applicable company standards.

  • Diagnose complex electrical and electronic system failures and recommend corrective actions or improvements to work practices.

  • Investigate recurring equipment failures, identify root causes, and develop engineering solutions to prevent recurrence.

  • Support production and maintenance teams in implementing reliability improvements, including development and auditing of maintenance procedures.

  • Promote and apply best practices, emerging technologies, and innovations in reliability and maintenance.

  • Monitor equipment performance and integrity, reporting against defined KPIs.

  • Provide technical input to projects to ensure reliability and maintainability are embedded during design and execution phases.

  • Establish and enforce Life -Cycle Asset Management guidelines for new and existing assets.

  • Participate in risk management activities to identify reliability -related and operational risks affecting safety and production.

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Management of Change (MOC), technical guidance, and trainings.



  • Requirements

    Qualifications & Experience

    Education

    • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

    • Preferred: Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.

    Experience

    • Required: 7–10 years of experience in a technical I&E role, preferably within the oil and gas industry, including 2–3 years in a similar leadership role.

    • Preferred: Experience in the petrochemicals industry.

    Other Job -Specific Skills / Certifications

    • Strong expertise in:

      • Electrical equipment condition monitoring and analysis

      • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

      • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

      • Reliability engineering and data analysis

    • Hands -on experience in preventive maintenance auditing and development of inspection policies and procedures.

    • Working knowledge of international standards, including IEC, IEEE, ISA, FCI, and functional safety standards IEC 61511 / ISA -84.

    • Strong understanding of process safety, engineering controls, and applicable OSHA, NFPA, and ANSI regulations.

    • Functional Safety Engineer (FS Eng) certification preferred.
