Job Description - Lower Elementary Homeroom Teacher G1 - G

This job is located in a BC Offshore Schoolin Doha, Qatar Responsibilities • Planning for instructionat the yearly, unit, weekly and/or daily level implementing schoolmandated programs, strategies of instruction and assessment to workwith students to achieve the Learning Standards of the BritishColumbia Canada Ministry of Education Curriculum • Usingeffective teaching strategies, learning and professional resourcesavailable for the grade to support instruction within curriculumguidelines and with the use of school mandated instructionalframeworks and programs to create opportunities for differentiatedlearning for students with different skill levels or learningstyles • Providing enrichment events and activitiesincluding but not limited to field trips, showcases, concerts,plays, and productions. Events may be organized at a class leveland/or a school-wide level • Communicating assignments andobjectives to students in a well-organized manner, using clear andprecise language • Sending homework assignments that arean extension of clearly defined school activities, appropriate tothe age, ability, and independent level of students, to provideopportunities for students to enrich, apply and review lessons andpractice skills they have learned, including open-ended studentactivities • Diagnosing, instructing and evaluating thespecific needs for students who are struggling to meet gradeexpectations and seeking assistance as necessary from the SchoolSupport Program • Using As Learning and For LearningAssessments to monitor student progress in order to planinstruction and provide feedback on a regular basis to students,their parents and the school administration • Activelyengage in discussions and planning that take place at the GradeLevel Team level and within Teams across different grade levels, toenhance consistency of practice and student achievement •Preparing formal report cards and engaging in parent conferencesaccording to the set dates • Establishing and maintainingfair and just standards for student behavior, with the guidance ofthe school Code of Conduct, to create an effective and safelearning environment • Supervising students in theclassroom, on the school campus and off-campus at school-relatedactivities • Guiding, motivating and supervising theclassroom assistant, if one is assigned to the class you areteaching • Maintaining accurate, complete and legiblerecords as required by the school policy • Attending andtaking an active role in staff meetings including those focused onanalyzing student assessment and data for the purpose of growthplanning • Communicating concerns, ideas, and informationwith colleagues, students, the school administration, parents andthe community in a professional and constructive manner •Maintaining a positive professional relationship with parents forthe benefit of their children, including but not limited toinforming them of upcoming-week lesson summaries, behavioralissues, and their children’s progress •Displaying willingness to understand the local culture and handlethe cultural nuances in a caring and respectful manner •Participating in professional development organized by the school• Attend Saturday school, not to exceed eight sessions forthe school year • Working hours: The official workinghours are from 6:30 am to 2:20 pm. All classes start at 7:00 am.With the exception of K2, BC Program classes end at 2:00 pm. K2classes end at 1:10 pm. Classroom teachers are expected to staywith their children until they are picked up, which normally isbetween 20 - 30 minutes after the end of classes. The first busride to school accommodation is at 2:30 pm. Therefore, teachers whoare residing in the school accommodation and are using the schoolbus are at the school from 6:30 am until 2:30 pm •After-school collaboration meetings are conducted once a week from2:30 pm - 3:30 pm where attendance is required. • Meetingswith parents of at-risk students would take place after theofficial working hours as needed. • Duties carried outwhen you are not teaching: • Prep using the Library, ITLab or one of the Curriculum & Instruction or staff rooms• Entry assessment for new students applying to theschool. Entry assessment normally takes place between January -June of and September - October of the following year. During peakmonths, a teacher may have to do 3-4 entry assessments a week. Eachentry assessment lasts for 30-40 minutes on average. Peak monthsare April - May, and September - October of the following year• Staff meetings or other staff/administration events• Substituting for another BC teacher, if requested by thePrincipal, to address emergency situations. (Note: the school has afull-time substitute teacher) • * Performing otherrelated, similar or logical duties as required or assigned. Thismay include change of the teaching assignment based on the schoolneeds and taking into consideration your experience, competenciesand subject of specialty. • Start the process of gettingBritish Columbia teacher certification immediately upon signingthis letter of the job offer. Provide and arrange for providing allrequired documents in a timely manner to make sure certification isobtained as quickly as possible. Report progress on achievingcertification to the school in detail to help the school follow upon the certification with the BC Ministry of Education TeachersCertification Branch. The school has the right to terminate thecontract if this duty is not fulfilled or if British Columbiateacher certification is not obtained due to the teacher notproviding the required documents or meeting any of thecertification requirements APPLY NOW • Education Required:Bachelor • Minimum Teaching Experience: 2 years ofteaching experience • Required Certificates:TeachingCredential/License • The school hires licensed teachersfrom BC and other Canadian provinces and Teachers who haveElementary Certification from the United States, United Kingdom,Australia, New Zealand or South Africa. Teachers who are licensedin jurisdictions other than Canada British Columbia would beexpected to work on their BC certification after they accept anofficial offer from the school • Experience indifferentiated learning and student inquiry instruction is stronglypreferred • Experience in ESL education is stronglypreferred • International experience and/or an attitude ofrespect to other cultures is needed Starting annual salary canrange from CAD 41,000 - 58,000 based on years of experience andqualifications. Annual salary increase upon renewal of the contractThe salary is tax-free. There are no income taxes in Qatar End ofservice benefit at the rate of 70 % of one month's grosssalary for every full year of service Furnished, air-conditionedhousing Transportation allowance of CAD 4400 /year or use of schoolbuses All utilities paid except telephone and Internet billsEconomy airfare at the beginning and end of the contract Annualeconomy round-trip airfare to point of origin at the time of summervacation Local private medical insurance Reimbursement of excessbaggage expenses The school will arrange and bear the Qatargovernment fee of your visa, work permit, and nationalidentification Teachers with families receive additional benefitsfor their family members including larger housing, higher excessbaggage allowance, children schooling, tickets, medical insuranceand help with visa expenses. There is a range of these benefitsbased on years of experience
