Job Description - Quality Controller

Job Summary:
The Quality Control (QC) Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all marine structures, components, and systems comply with technical specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. This role involves inspections at various stages of fabrication, assembly, and installation for ships, vessels, or offshore platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform inspections and tests on marine components, welds, coatings, piping, and structural steel as per project specifications and classification society requirements (e.g., ABS, DNV, BV).

  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans), WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and project documentation.

  • Conduct dimensional checks, NDT (non-destructive testing) coordination (VT, UT, RT, MT, PT), and visual weld inspections.

  • Document and report non-conformities, deviations, and quality issues; coordinate corrective and preventive actions with relevant departments.

  • Verify material traceability, calibration of tools, and compliance with welding procedures.

  • Interface with clients, third-party inspectors, and classification society representatives during audits and inspections.

  • Prepare and maintain QC documentation, including inspection reports, welding logs, and quality dossiers.

  • Monitor ongoing work to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.

  • Assist in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical/Marine Engineering or a related field.

  • 3–5 years of QC experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or offshore fabrication.

  • Familiarity with international standards and marine classification societies (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, etc.).

  • Certified in NDT methods (e.g., ASNT Level II) and/or CSWIP 3.1 / AWS CWI is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of welding processes, marine coatings, and materials used in marine environments.

  • Good communication, documentation, and reporting skills.

  • Able to work in shipyards, dry docks, offshore environments, and onboard vessels.
