Job Overview:

Perform conceptual FEED and detailedanalyses and design as per design basis project specificationsdesign codes andstandards.



KeyTasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop creative andinnovative solutions that are reliable and costeffective forproblems and challenges when they arise
  • Applyexpertise to the most complex problems
  • Manageown time to meet objectives and (as Lead Engineer) forecast andplan resource requirements
  • Develop and manageplans to achieve business objectives
  • Clearlycommunicate and explain highly complex ideas and anticipatepotential objections influencing outcomes
  • Whenacting as Lead Engineer in addition:
    • Directlarge Mechanical Engineering team as a Lead Engineer.
    • Lead the Discipline engineering design of theassigned work area and complete within planned schedule and budgetin accordance with standards MOR and projectspecific procedures andto a high professional standard
    • Plan organizeand direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assignedproject including scope deliverables schedule and all manpowerresources agree allocations with the Discipline Manager
    • Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearlyidentified
    • Maintain responsibility forprogress and productivity identifying any required correctiveaction
    • Act as project representative for theDiscipline during meetings with Project Team Customer disciplinelead and relevant agencies such as certifying authorities auditorsthird parties etc.
  • Become fully familiarwith the project scope of work specifications schedule and allinterdiscipline requirements; including identifying concerns asearly as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to addressthe issues. Interpret contractual requirements as they relate toengineering execution
  • Identify changes toscope and promptly raise change notifications including providingany necessary supporting documentation and estimates. Providesimilar support for Variation Orders
  • Interfacewith all disciplines to develop clash free designs
  • Interface with other departments to obtaininput for Discipline designs and drawings
  • Maintain close coordination with otherengineering disciplines Planning and Project Management Team asrequired
  • Document substantive communications(communications that result in significant decisions or assignmentof actions) and forward copies to Discipline Lead Engineer andDiscipline Manager
  • Prepare estimates for bidproposals including technical query reviews execution statementsand manhour estimates identifying software requirements and anyother projectspecific requirements
  • Raisetechnical queries to obtain missing information clarify work scopeand to maintain preferred McDermott procedures specificationsstandards practices and operational requirements
  • Prepare review and (as Lead Engineer) approveDiscipline engineering design basis philosophies and technicalspecifications
  • Participate in finalizingdeliverables lists and deliverables ensuring compliance withspecifications and functional integrity
  • Reviewproject schedule and fabrication schedule in relation toconstruction sequence milestones and engineering scope
  • Attend project kickoff and review meetingsvendor meetings engineering meetings and offshore site surveys asrequired
  • Provide technical direction andreview of Designers producing products related to MechanicalEngineering
  • Prepare review and (as LeadEngineer) approve design reports and procedures
  • Assist in providing necessary design inputs toother disciplines to enable them in proceeding with theirdeliverables
  • Assist procurement personnel inprocuring Discipline equipment materials and services; ensuringthat work produced complies with Customer objectives andprocedures. Procurement assistance includes preparing reviewing and(as Lead Engineer) approving requisitions evaluating technicalquotations and preparing queries compiling bid tabulations andrecommendations preparing purchase requisitions and coordinatingwith Procurement to expedite vendor documents as directed byDiscipline Lead Engineer
  • Assist in updatingweight report based on receipt of vendor information
  • Review and (as Lead Engineer) approve vendorand subcontractor submittals checking for compliance with projectspecifications and providing comments as necessary
  • Review and (as Lead Engineer) approve designverification through singlediscipline check/ inter discipline check(IDC)
  • Provide technical support to fabricationqueries
  • Keep the Discipline Manager andProject Management Team apprised of all activities and concernstechnical budgetary and manpower related
  • Assist in providing inputs for actual planningand forecasting progress reports including associated productivity
  • Check final subcontractor and vendor datamanuals to ensure that all requested data has been received andapproved
  • Present issues and problems toCustomers in a timely manner and assist Lead Engineer innegotiating resolution in accordance with project and companyrequirements
  • Perform (as required) TechnicalQuality Audit reviews in accordance with MDR Global Procedures
  • Assist Lead Engineer with responses toCustomer and other agencies (such as certifying authoritiesauditors third parties etc.) on their review and approval
  • Capture lessons learned and enter into MDRsLessons Learned system
  • Provide leadershipmentoring and guidance to other Engineers
  • Supervise and guide assigned engineers andcoordinate with project Lead Designers for Discipline engineeringand design deliverables
  • Assign personnel toanalysis and design tasks based on knowledge of individualstrengths and capabilities
  • Monitor costs ofown work processes
  • Evaluate costs associatedwith products and solutions
  • Assist in themaintenance of departmental technical guidelines
  • Participate in development and maintenance ofGlobal Procedures Software and Standards
  • Incorporate approved Lessons Learned into MORLevel 2 & 3 engineering procedures as applicable
  • May participate in standards developmentcommittees or task groups
  • Recognized as havinggood communication and presentation skills (e.g. publishedtechnical papers are clearly written actively participates inconferences and/or seminars and/or is a capable presenter of designsolutions or topics at lunch and learns; etc.)
  • Assist Department Manager in identifyingdepartmental needs including development of personnel and technicalcapabilities
  • Participate in McDermott forumsand represent McDermott as a subject matter expert (SME)
  • Provide information on employee performance tothe Discipline Manager
  • Assist Disciplinemanager in interviewing job applicants
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing ofvarious items as assigned
  • Identify vendorassistance for installation precommissioning and commissioningpurposes
  • Update electrical load listP&IDs and equipment lists based on receipt of vendorinformation
  • Participate in HAZOP meetings asnecessary
  • Participate in 3D model reviews asnecessary
  • When acting as Lead Engineer inaddition:
    • Act as projectbased Discipline pointof contact in communications and meetings with Customercounterparts
    • Ensure substantive communicationsare documented
    • Prepare bids and projectsDiscipline engineering budget and execution plans updating asrequired
    • Identify project staff needs based onknowledge of individual engineers skill sets and provide requeststo the Discipline manager
    • Plan organize andassign tasks responsibilities and manhour budgets to the disciplineteam and verify tasks are completed within budgets
    • Plan Discipline Level 4 detail deliverableschedule/ register compliant with the overall execution plan
    • Prepare working forecasts identifyingchangemanagement plans corrective action and real time schedule
    • Provide Discipline inputs for actual planningand forecasting progress reports including associated productivity
    • Alert project team of any deviation from thescope or a need for change order
    • Monitorprogress measurement results and take corrective action asnecessary to improve Discipline performance including performanceat interfaces with others
    • Coordinate withother Discipline Lead Engineers and Designers to ensure timelyreceipt of necessary design inputs
    • Review andapprove requisitions technical quotation evaluations and queriescompiled bid tabulations and recommendations and purchaserequisitions; and coordinate with Procurement to expedite vendordocuments as required
    • Lead the Discipline teamduring project audits (internal Customer and third party technicalaudits) and Design Reviews
    • Review commentsfrom Customers & other agencies on documents and drawingsproduced by the team and resolve and give guidance on their updateand incorporation
    • Assist Discipline managerinthe preparation of quarterly forecasts and manpower planning
    • Anticipate project engineering needs and planaccordingly
    • Coordinate with vendor fordiscipline managed/procured items
    • AssistDiscipline manager and Project Engineering Manager or ProjectManager in Performance Evaluation of project team members
    • Check and Approve Mechanical equipment listspare parts list special tools list
    • Check andParticipate in Approval of detailed engineering documents/deliverables such as:
      • Mechanical EquipmentSpecifications and datasheets
      • Mechanicalhandling philosophy reportand associated requisitioning forhandling equipment
      • Noise report prepared byConsultant to ensure it complies with Project requirements
      • Lubrication schedule spare partsschedule

EssentialQualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor Degree or MasterDegree in Engineering
  • 20 yrs in oil and gaswith major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detaildesign
  • Detailed knowledge of design techniquesand analysis methods and detailed knowledge of the theory contentand application of standards codes and guidelines as applicable foroffshore. Knowledgeable in project coordination and executionskills. Recognized across company as a key lead highly innovativedesigner or highly skilled analyst
  • PreferablyRegistered Professional Engineer or member of professionalengineering society as applicable
  • Seasonedknowledge of engineering standards and specifications
  • Good knowledge of engineering software
  • Good working knowledge of English language
  • HSE TQM and cost conscious
  • Good organizer motivator and supervisor
  • Keen on improving effectiveness of the work
  • Show flexibility and ensure proper handoverwith regards to:
    • The replacement of colleaguesduring illness and holidays
    • The provision ofassistance to other colleagues with heavy workload (also otherprojects) when possible/desirable
    • Themanaging/learning of current working methods and softwareapplications
    • The reassignment to otherMcDermott offices
