We are seeking for Specialist Contract lawyer with exposure to PPAs/ IPP projects. This role will provide legal advice, draft, revise, manage contracts for Power and Water production projects, ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, and effective stakeholder collaboration.
This position is for expert level law professional with extensive experience in independent power and water projects . The holder of this position is expected to have sound legal background in contract and agreement, power and water purchase agreements and as follows:
Key Responsibilities:
Draft, review, and negotiate Power and Water Purchase Agreements, and contracts typical to the energy industry.
Analyze deviations to contracts, negotiate terms, draft contracts.
Ensure contracts comply with relevant laws and standards (e.g., FIDIC, laws of Qatar)
Advise on legal risks, claims, and dispute resolution.
Support project teams on regulatory and compliance matters.
Maintain contract documentation and report on contract status.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education and Experience:
Law degree (LLB); advanced or contract management qualifications preferred.
Strong English and Arabic drafting skills.
8+ years’ experience in contract law, preferably in Energy industry.
Familiarity with Power and Water Purchase Agreements is highly desirable.
Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
Familiarity with standard contract forms and regulatory frameworks.
2. Required Skills:
1. Contract Drafting & Negotiation
Expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating Power and Water Purchase Agreements (PWPA) and other energy sector contracts.
Ability to analyze deviations, propose amendments, and negotiate terms to protect organizational interests.
Familiarity with standard contract forms (e.g., FIDIC) and regulatory frameworks relevant to Qatar.
2. Legal & Regulatory Compliance
Deep understanding of Qatari laws and international standards governing energy contracts.
Ability to ensure all contracts comply with legal requirements and industry standards.
Experience advising on legal risks, claims, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
3. Risk Management
Skill in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal and contractual risks.
Experience supporting project teams on regulatory and compliance matters, including fraud risk and governance controls. [RE: Upload...e ERM Tool | Outlook]
4. Documentation & Reporting
Proficiency in maintaining comprehensive contract documentation and reporting on contract status.
Ability to track changes, amendments, and ensure all decisions are well -documented.
5. Communication & Correspondence
Strong drafting skills in both English and Arabic for formal correspondence and contract documents.
Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to stakeholders.
• 6. Stakeholder Collaboration
Effective collaboration with internal teams (Legal, Compliance, Finance, Project Management) and external parties (consultants, contractors, government agencies).
