Senior Clinical Veterinarian

Job Purpose:

Responsible for equine health and related care services. Includes, services related to equine anesthesiology, internal medicine, reproduction medicine or surgical services. Lead surgical programs and advance veterinary medicine in all aspects to position EVMC as a center of excellence.

Key Result Areas:

• Develop, manage and administer procedures related to area of specialization.
• Conduct retrospective and prospective clinical studies to advance veterinary medicine independently or in collaboration with other veterinary scientists, resulting in publications and presentations at local and international professional meetings.
• Responsible for practicing veterinary medicine within guidelines and regulations of the state of Qatar animal regulatory agencies.
• Lead and guide the staff to foster high ethical standards in meeting the organization's missions and goals
• Troubleshooting and correcting soundness problems to avoid and protect the horses from lameness.
• Supervising medical technicians (nurses), grooms, interns and visiting students.

Anesthesiology:

• Provide anesthesiology to horses undergoing surgery and/or other procedures requiring general anesthesia.
• Develop and evaluate policies and procedures relating to equine anesthesiology and pain management.
• Responsible for pain managements of horses at Al Shaqab and those admitted to EVMC.
• Identifying and reporting the occurrence of infectious diseases to appropriate authorities within and outside the state of Qatar

Internal Medicine:

• Provide medical care for horses admitted to EVMC
• In charge of EVMC neonatal intensive care unit and any related services
• Troubleshooting and treating/correcting medical conditions to avoid and protect the horses from suffering and illness

Reproduction:

• In charge of EVMC reproduction referral unit and any related services
• Troubleshooting and treating/correcting reproductive medical conditions to optimize fertility and avoid/protect the horses from suffering and illness
• Manage breeding activities. Includes, natural breeding artificial insemination (fresh, cool and frozen semen), as well as advanced assisted reproduction techniques, such as semen cryopreservation, embryo preservation and transfer, oocyte pick-up etc.

Surgery:

• Perform surgery on horses admitted to EVMC

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• DVM degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory
• Board certified in an accredited college in area of specialization or extensive clinical experience equal to qualifications for board certification
• Minimum of 8+ years' work experience as a veterinarian in a relevant field of equine veterinary
• Evidence of continued professional development
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively and diplomatically with a board range of diverse individuals professionally
• Demonstrated management experience in order to direct, guide, train and evaluate the efforts of staff to meet operational standards, with the ability to hold personnel accountable and make difficult decisions to improve operations
