Purpose of Role

As a Data Engineer, you will be at the core of advancing and scaling our procurement data initiatives. Your primary focus will be to evolve and maintain our data lake, built on Google Cloud-native technologies, transforming complex, raw procurement data into structured, insightful outputs that drive strategic and operational decision-making across the company and our client organizations. You’ll collaborate closely with analysts, data scientists, and procurement experts to integrate, optimize, and govern procurement data. Your role blends technical data engineering expertise with business intelligence skills and procurement domain knowledge.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Data Pipelines & Integration: Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest structured and semi-structured data into the data lake. Use Google Cloud, Cloud Composer, and Apache Airflow to orchestrate and manage complex workflows, ensuring reliability, scalability, and data lineage.

  • Data Transformation: Transform raw data into analytics-ready formats using SQL, Python, dbt and Vertex AI Pipelines. Build modular and testable transformations that support analytics, reporting, and AI/ML use cases.

  • Data Modelling: Design efficient and maintainable data models to optimize query performance and enable self-service analytics. Work with analysts and data scientists to align models with business logic and key metrics.

  • Data Quality & Security: Implement error handling, anomaly detection, data quality checks, monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure data integrity and pipeline reliability. Apply GDPR-compliant security measures, including data masking, access control and encryption.

  • CI/CD & Workflow Automation: Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines using Git/version control, peer reviews, and automated deployment processes to ensure traceability, auditability and reliable releases.

  • Data Governance: Support data governance through metadata management, data cataloguing, access provisioning, and data standards, working closely with technology and business teams.

  • Innovation & AI/ML: Explore new technologies and data sources to enhance the data platform. Collaborate with data scientists on AI/ML pipelines, predictive procurement and risk forecasting.

  • Data Products & Collaboration: Partner with business stakeholders, analysts, data scientists, privacy, and infrastructure teams to develop scalable data products and solutions aligned with business and technical requirements.

  • Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of data models, pipelines, workflows, and processes to support maintainability, scalability, and knowledge sharing.

Skills, Qualfications & Abilities

  • Solid understanding of procurement processes, sourcing strategies, and supply chain dynamics.

  • Proven experience in AI and data science, preferably within a professional services or procurement environment.

  • Strong understanding of data architecture, integration, and management, including data lakes, ETL processes, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), and data warehousing.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with knowledge of data visualization tools such as Power BI.

  • Experience designing and maintaining automated data pipelines using Airflow, Cloud Composer, or similar workflow orchestration tools.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data and insights to support decision-making and identify process improvements.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Passionate about innovation in procurement and data-driven solutions.

  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work accurately and efficiently to deadlines.
