Lead Software Engineer

The Technology team at Chatham is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing software solutions that support our global operations. As a Development Team Lead, you will report to the Head of Asset Technology and work on the Asset Platform product of Chatham. You will lead a highly skilled team of developers, engineers, and technology professionals, with a focus on Ruby on Rails development. You will oversee all aspects of the technology stack, from coding to deployment, while ensuring that bug fixing, testing, and continuous improvements are carried out efficiently.

In this role you will:

• Manage and provide leadership to a team of developers, ensuring that coding, development, and bug-fixing activities align with business objectives.


• Ensure the successful development, deployment, and maintenance of applications using Ruby on Rails, guiding your team in best practices, code optimization, and scalable architecture.


• Oversee all stages of the software development lifecycle, from coding and testing, to deployment, release and bug resolution, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality performance.


• Supervise and prioritize bug-fixing efforts, ensuring that issues are quickly identified, addressed, and resolved to maintain system integrity and performance.


• Collaborate with senior leadership to implement the company’s and the product’s technology strategy and roadmap, ensuring that technology aligns with business growth and operational goals.


• Encourage innovation within the team by adopting new tools, frameworks, and methodologies to enhance development efficiency and product quality.


• Implement and maintain best practices for code quality, testing, and peer reviews to ensure high standards are met and maintained across all projects.


• Work closely with product management, design, operations and other technology teams to ensure alignment between development efforts and business objectives.


• Oversee infrastructure management, ensuring that systems and applications are scalable, secure, and optimized for performance as the company grows.


• Guide the development of your team by mentoring, providing growth opportunities, and ensuring continuous learning in modern technologies and methodologies.


• Manage relationships with third-party vendors, development tools, and services that support the team’s development efforts.

Contributors to your success: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.


• 8+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing development teams.


• Expertise/strong focus in Ruby on Rails development, including architecture design, code optimization and application scalability, with a deep understanding of full-stack web development.

• Experience managing the software development lifecycle, including planning, coding, testing, deployment, releasing and bug fixing.


• Strong knowledge of infrastructure management, cloud solutions, and scalable architecture.


• Experience working in Agile or DevOps environments preferred.


• Ability to quickly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs and technical issues, ensuring smooth system performance.


• Strong ability to work cross-functionally with product, design, operations and other technology teams to align technology efforts with business goals.


• Ability to develop and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.


• Proactively seek and implement new technologies, tools, and methodologies to drive efficiency and innovation within the team.
