JOB OVERVIEW
Reports to the Superintendent (NSP/ BOP/ Common Systems). Preparing Level 3 and Level 4 Commissioning Procedures for assigned NSP/ BOP/ Common systems based on commissioning specifications provided by the EPC Contractor. Preparing lay up & conservation procedures for assigned systems in preparation for the refurbishment outage. Providing oversight on field activities related to commissioning. Reporting commissioning problems and participating in their diagnosis and resolution. Interfacing as required with all groups involved directly or indirectly with the commissioning of systems. Preparing commissioning reports. Preparing Return to Service (RTS) procedures for assigned systems post-refurbishment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Within the terms of reference and context provided the Superintendent, NSP/BOP/Common systems and through collateral relationships with peers within the PMO, the System Engineer is accountable for the following:
- Developing a good understanding of the system design basis, safety functions (if applicable), layout, operation and maintenance requirements for systems assigned to them by reviewing system design documents, FSAR, conducting site walkdowns when possible and interfacing with other groups.
- Developing a good understanding of the contractual design modifications affecting the systems assigned to them.
- Reviewing reference commissioning documents to familiarize with the commissioning processes and understand the differences that are specific to Cernavoda Unit 1.
- Reviewing/accepting the EPC Contractor’s commissioning specifications to integrate into commissioning procedures for assigned systems.
- Reviewing/accepting turnover packages for system turnover from Construction to Commissioning.
- Providing input to schedule and planning groups as required.
- Monitoring the performance of assigned systems during commissioning.
- Raising quality observation reports when system issues are found.
- Participating in the resolution of commissioning issues and interfacing with EPC Contractor as needed.
- Leading and coaching other engineers within the team
- Continuously improving and strengthening the technical capability of the group.
- Preparing lessons learned and feedback to continuously improve the work process and retain knowledge.
- Participating in analyses and discussions with contractors and customers, regarding matters related to system turnover, commissioning and handover to operation.
- Providing input to operating manuals and flowsheets and maintenance manuals.
- Preparing data for recommendations to achieve work objectives; ability to work with others, including customers, construction workers and contractors, in the resolution of problems.
- Participating in team’s meetings, interfacing meetings with CNE or EPC contractors.
- Carrying out or assisting with special studies or analyses for the definition and solution of problems, or for economic or efficiency improvement considerations or plant systems engineering roles.
- Participating in the preparation of specifications, procedures, estimates for small or large projects.
- Communicating with other team members to project workload and resources.
- Authoring official documents including letters, procedures, reports, specifications, and requirements.
- Other duties as required.
EDUCATION
General experience in the field of completed studies:
- Post-Secondary/University Degree in Engineering
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a results-driven professional who has the following:
- Direct involvement in a CANDU reactor commissioning post refurbishment will be an advantage
- 7 years relevant experience, 3 years of experience working on a Nuclear Power Plant projects
- In depth knowledge of site outage/installation/maintenance/operation and commissioning of CANDU Nuclear Power Plants
- Comprehensive understanding of CANDU technology and operations, with expertise in system engineering.
- Demonstrated capability to manage and lead
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality products under tight timelines and high pressure to support unit restart schedules
- Excellent problem-solving skills and experience in leading technical projects to successful completion
- A Professional Engineer of any Canadian province or eligible for PEO status with a passion for engineering
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality
- Strong attention to detail and to quality assurance requirements
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team situation
- Romanian Language proficiency would be beneficial, but is not a requirement
