This role is to act as a leader within the building design department based in either Dubai, UAE or Riyadh, KSA, as one of the senior staff members responsible for the following key responsibilities:

  • Business Strategy Development

  • Business Development:

  • Commission Management & Service Leadership

  • Departmental Leadership

  • Subject Matter Expert / Leadership

Roles & Responsibilities:

A – Business Strategy Development

Contribute to the overall global, regional, divisional, business strategy, as relating to building design. This will be in coordination with and contribute to geographical, market and regional strategies.

For building design specific considerations of sectors, asset types, capabilities and locations are to be considered and aligned. This is to set a pro-active approach, linked to the regional and global long-rage (5 year) business plans, for the contribution, shape, and focus areas of the building design department. It will then guide and drive business development activities.

B – Business Development

For an assigned geographical area or client account, lead the business development efforts on behalf of the building design department. This includes:

  • Client Engagement – Work with the wider business to formulate a client engagement plan for assign client accounts or geographical area. This includes working with the win work team, market directors, area directors, key account managers, practice and discipline leads where applicable.

  • Strategic Pursuits – Where identified as such lead/contribute in the formation of strategic pursuits, contributing on behalf of the building design department for larger multi-department opportunities or leading when a building design commission only.

  • Opportunity Management – Act as the lead in assessing RFP’s or opportunities as they are received and part of the bid/no-bid process.

  • Bid Strategy & Bid Formation – Lead/Contribute to the bid strategy and bid formation, working with the win-work team and design practices/disciplines. Where assigned act as the bid director responsible for

    • Implementation and adherence to governance protocols

    • Working with and providing direction to technical practices as part of the bid formulation

    • Leading the commercial, legal and technical input and reviews for the opportunity

    • Establishing client requirements and AtkinsRéalis USPs – developing the win strategy

    • Lead the fee formulation strategy and work with stakeholders for alignment.

    • Negotiation & Conversion – Lead the conversion stage of the proposal including.

    • Coordinating and directing executive leadership engagement as part of conversion and win strategy

    • Engagement and negotiation with clients to create and convert opportunities.

    • Leading BAFO fee adjustments and updating governance.

    • Negotiating terms and conditions, with support of commercial team

    • Negotiating final contract execution.

B – Commission Management & Service Leadership

A critical component of the role is to provide overall leadership of service provision, ideally (but not always limited to) as a continuation of client relationship and ownership from the win work stage. This would include leadership and guidance of the project team on:

  • Commission Management

    • Contract Administration & Change Leadership

    • Variation & Working at Risk Administration

    • Cost to Complete Accuracy & Alignment

    • Lockup & Invoice Oversight

    • Payment & DSO Oversight

    • Project Review Boards (to region and group) Ownership

    • Project Audit Oversight

  • Service Leadership

    • Service Mobilisation Leadership

    • Client Engagement and Stakeholder Management

    • Digital Delivery

    • Service Delivery Planning Method/Approach Oversight

    • Subconsultant Management Sponsor

    • Lessons learnt dissemination/coordination.

For larger projects the role will involve leading the commission on behalf of AtkinsRéalis as a Project Director.

C – Capability & Departmental Leadership

The role will take a leading role in bringing the various departments, practices and disciplines together across the business, with a focus upon application within building design commission.

  • Integration and approach with other parts of the design and wider AtkinsRéalis organisation

  • Practice integration

  • Improving multi-disciplinary design delivery

  • Working with central/project controls and project delivery

  • Business financial planning

  • Business reporting

  • Resource management

  • Strategic recruitment

  • Transformation initiatives participation

  • Global Practice and Technical Networks

The role is a leadership role that will focus on the friction points and opportunities for business and service improvement within the building design department. As a leadership position they will not be set tasks, but will act as a pro-active leaders to shape, management and direct the overall department together with the Regional Director – Building Design and the wider leadership team.

D – Subject Matter Expert/Leadership

It is envisaged that there will be a number of Directors responsible for separate leadership focus areas, including

  • Engineering

  • Client/Geography Ownership

  • Sector Leadership

Qualifications

:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Civil Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Chartered Engineer with the relevant Institute

  • 20+ years’ experience in delivering major projects.

  • 15+ years’ experience in a multi-disciplinary Team Leader position

  • Proven track record of managing large-scale projects in a consulting environment.

  • Strong project management skills, with proficiency in project management software and methodologies.

  • Excellent client management skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and best practices in engineering.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
