The director of development is a key player in the content organization. The role needs to generate show/video/social concepts as well as have a large network of creators/makers that will pitch ideas.

VICE Jax is a joint venture between VICE and a large Middle East media partner. VICE Jax’s primary directive is to create a leading platform for quality digital Arabic content centered on modern Arab youth culture anchored in Saudi Arabia. The expectation of this role and others connected with VICE Jax is that you will work on VICE JAX project as well as other VICE Media lines of business including VICE and Virtue (VICE’s creative agency) projects throughout the Middle East and Africa.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop new and ongoing original unscripted (and possibly scripted) content.
• Lead the development and presentation of premium original concepts externally to the market
• Connect with and recruit new creators to pitch and run content series
• Identify new talent, market trends and multiplatform specific needs
• Oversee production and presentation of all development pilots and work.
• Manage a yearly development budget to create a healthy pipeline of potential show concept work.
• Build and oversee the development of original market materials, inclusive of research, securing rights and clearances, presentation decks, and talent contracts
• Assist with all development to green-light projects, in cooperation with Head of Production and Series Producer
• Research and track broadcast, OTT and multiplatform trends across media landscape
• Maintain strong commissioner contact base
• Set financial and creative benchmarks for new development
• Cultivate a stable of series producers, directors and writers to execute new development
• Develop strong, trusting relationships with internal and external teams and partners
• Maintain clear workflow and improved communication of the development pipeline
• Assemble presentations as required
  
   

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a fluent in Arabic and English.
• Minimum of 8+ years experience in a creative/development role
• Track record of successful greenlights
• Continually drive for results and highest quality standard
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be hard-working, determined, self-motivated
• Familiarity with all aspects of video production and production budgets

LOCATION

** Temporary location for this role can be between UAE and KSA but the candidate will eventually be expected to be located in Riyadh where VICE’s Arabia HQ will be located.
