Logistics, Customs & Freight Manager

Job Description

The Customs & Freight Manager supports the organization in ensuring that most timely routes and most cost-effective suppliers are selected for Freight, that accurate Customs Duty is declared for all products, that products are cleared from Customs in a timely manner without demurrages or detentions, and that the Customs & Freight Team is managed in an effective manner.  The ideal candidate will have experience working with the Saudi Customs Authority (ZATCA) and/or have previous experience working in a big 4 consultancy firm.

Customs

Develop and implements customs procedures / work instructions (standardize)

Translates business needs and priorities into actionable custom strategies.

Ensures to complete all regulatory reporting to government entities as required.

Align company internal compliance department & internal legal associates on any issues arising, in coordination with CFO.

Provides support to Custom Clearance Team in problem resolutions (i.e., helping to analyze and providing suggestions on resolving customs clearance issues and complaints).

Collaborate with other departments to integrate customs with business systems or processes, such as customer sales, order management, accounting, or shipping.

Manages, coach and develops a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.

Ensures that all functions under supervision operate in accordance with health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff.

Resolve any arising problems or complaints, in coordination with CFO.

Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements.

Comply with laws, regulations, and ZATCA requirements.

Arrange insurance coverage for goods.

Conduct the required inspection & checks.

Ensure accurate HS Codes are used for all products, and ensure any updates from ZATCA in HS Codes are reflected in a timely manner

Ensure Customs Exemptions are applied accurately and where possible exhausted exemptions are rolled over to following years

Support Finance with annual internal audit in order to check there are no duty under and over declarations

Freight

Develop and implement most effective procedures and routes for shipments.

Communicates with shipping lines, dispatchers, warehouses and clients regarding custom regulations and other relevant government requirements/regulations.

Negotiates prices, terms of sale and service agreements, in coordination with CFO.

Meet cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness targets.

Requirements and skills

Proven working experience in Customs field

Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs compliance and freight management in Saudi Arabia

Strong knowledge of Saudi customs regulations and procedures, specifically with ZATCA

Previous experience working in ZATCA or a big 4 consultancy firm will be highly advantageous

Demonstrable ability to lead and manage staff.

Proficient in standard logistics procedures.

Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects.
