ROLE OVERVIEW The Head of T1 Container Terminal provides operational leadership and accountability for all T1 container terminal cargo movements. The scope includes all phases of operational activation including the integration of people and operational processes for the development of an effective, safe, and efficient container terminal of 2M TEU throughput capacity.
ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES The Head of T1 Container Terminal responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Collaboration with Projects, Engineering, IT and Automation teams to design operational processes including control room, systems and people interfaces to facilitate cargo flows effectively
Collaboration and operational resourcing alongside related functions for the testing and integration of automated systems and technologies
Develop and ensure the control room design including layout and equipment meet operational requirements and safety standards.
Develop operational policies and procedures to deliver effective performance in the Control Room
Engage and allocate resources for all equipment and integrated testing
Identify and resolve design and functionality issues alongside Projects team to deliver timelines
Develop and implement operational contingency plans and redundancy measures
Develop risk register and mitigation points
Design training programs for operational staff on all interface points
Develop certification requirements for staff
Conduct training programs and assessments through Trainers
Create operational business process manuals and documentation for control room procedures
Develop of resources to meet operational demand
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and vendors to ensure timely completion of control room and identification of risks
Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and solutions to stakeholders and senior management.
Develop effective communication protocols and escalation points between control room capabilities and overall terminal operations.
Oversee daily operations ensuring seamless coordination of terminal activities.
Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and initiate corrective actions for sustainable resolution
Ensure compliance with safety, security, and environmental regulations and policies
Optimize the use of automation technologies to enhance terminal productivity and efficiency.
Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational performance.
Develop and drive continuous improvement projects to drive performance
Lead, motivate, and supervise control room staff, including shift supervisors, controllers and operators.
Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and facilitate training and development programs.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
Develop and implement emergency response protocols for the control room.
Coordinate with emergency team and other stakeholders for incident response plan
Conduct regular drills and training to ensure staff readiness
Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and stakeholders
Develop a team that is capable of improving processes they own to drive value at lowest cost.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery by establishing service levels for each operational activity
Define performance requirements for operational processes, which are used to measure and drive terminal performance
Maintain accurate records of control room activities and incidents and escalation
Prepare and submit operational reports, performance metrics, and other documentation as require
Define and lead T1 Container Terminal Annual Business Plan initiatives
Define T1 Container Terminal annual budge
Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and inefficiencies
Implement corrective actions and continuous improvement measures
Respond effectively to emergencies and unexpected events
Provide effective leadership coaching and management of direct reports and their teams

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills and Experience
10+ years of experience in terminal operations, with at least 5 years in a terminal management role within an automated or semi-automated terminal
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members, stakeholders, and customers
Experience in the development of integrated teams from zero
Significant experience working in a multicultural environment to drive performance
Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure
Significant experience managing projects related to automation technology implementation and upgrades
Experience managing in complex environments
Demonstrated skill set in problem resolution
Extensive experience in engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and performance
In-depth knowledge of automated container handling systems, such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs), automated stacking cranes (ASCs), and terminal operating systems (TOS)
Strong analytical skills for interpreting data and making data-driven decisions
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to automation systems
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Maritime Studies, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Significant experience in project management and container terminal starts ups
Demonstrated experience in automation technology and control systems, such as SCADA, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming, or other relevant technologies.
Lean Six Sigma – Green Belt or an equivalent certification
Certifications in Leadership Training and Development Programs
