Job Code: 33794
Job Location: Melbourne, FL
Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked – and have every other Friday off
Job Description:
The Solutions Architect will lead the architecture, scalability, and availability of our digital engineering application ecosystem spanning software, systems, electrical, and mechanical engineering disciplines. This role will drive enterprise-scale deployments of “gold tier” engineering applications and enable secure external collaboration and AI capabilities across our engineering tools. This role partners closely with Engineering, IT Operations, Cybersecurity, and Vendor/License Management to deliver resilient, performant, and compliant solutions while advancing Digital Thread and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices across the enterprise.
Essential Functions:
Strategic Architecture & Roadmapping
- Provide technical and architectural guidance to support the portfolio strategy and multi-year roadmap owned by the business team. Ensure proposed solutions align with enterprise architecture principles, scalability, security, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with portfolio owners to validate feasibility of roadmap initiatives, identify technical dependencies, and define architecture patterns for consolidation, modernization, and integration across engineering disciplines (PLM, ALM, MBSE, CAD/ECAD, requirements, simulation, and DevOps).
- Establish reference architectures and patterns for on-prem, cloud, and hybrid deployments (e.g., Azure/AWS), covering compute, storage, networking, identity, CI/CD, and data flows.
- Drive adoption of Digital Thread principles to ensure seamless connectivity and traceability of data across the product lifecycle from requirements and models to design, simulation, manufacturing, and sustainment.
- Support MBSE enablement by architecting integrations between modeling tools (e.g., Cameo/MagicDraw, Jama) and downstream systems, ensuring model fidelity, version control, and traceability.
Enterprise Scale & High Availability
- Design and implement technical plans to scale enterprise instances of key “gold tier” applications, including capacity planning, clustering, caching, database tuning, and content distribution.
- Architect high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions; implement fault-tolerant designs, backup/restore, active-active/active-passive failover, and resilience testing.
- Enhance operability practices: logging, tracing, metrics, synthetic monitoring, runbooks, and performance baselines.
External Collaboration Enablement
- Create secure external collaboration environments for engineering tools (partners/suppliers/customers), including identity federation (SAML/OIDC), granular authorization, secure data exchange, zero trust network access (ZTNA), and data loss prevention (DLP).
- Define multi-tenant or segregated collaboration models, data lifecycle policies, and export controls compliance (e.g., ITAR/EAR/CUI/NIST).
AI Enablement in Engineering Tools
- Identify high-value AI use cases (e.g., requirements quality checks, model consistency, test generation, code assistants, simulation automation, anomaly detection).
- Design AI integration patterns (in-tool plugins, microservices, API gateways) and govern model selection, prompt safety, responsible AI controls, and data privacy.
Security, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations and engineering data governance policies.
- Define and enforce configuration baselines, change control, and environment segregation (dev/test/stage/prod).
Integration & Data Architecture
- Orchestrate integrations among PLM/ALM/MBSE/CAD/ECAD/requirements/dev tools, ERP/MES, and data platforms via APIs, ETL, etc.
- Establish master data and metadata strategies (parts, BOMs, requirements, models, test artifacts), ensuring lineage, versioning, and traceability across the Digital Thread.
Lifecycle Management & Operations
- Drive environment automation and CI/CD pipelines for app upgrades/customizations.
- Collaborate with IT Ops to standardize patching, vulnerability remediation, capacity/usage monitoring, and incident/problem/change management.
- Optimize license usage, hosting costs, and support contracts; perform vendor management and technical due diligence.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Translate engineering/business needs into solution designs; produce architecture diagrams, decision records, and runbooks.
- Lead technical workshops, design reviews, and readiness assessments; provide clear executive-level status on milestones, risks, and mitigations.
- Mentor engineers and admins; promote best practices and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- 8–12+ years in solutions/enterprise architecture or senior engineering roles supporting digital engineering tools across software, systems, electrical, and/or mechanical domains.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Proven experience designing HA/DR architectures and scaling enterprise applications in on-prem and cloud environments.
- Strong grounding in networking, identity, data security, and compliance for engineering data.
- Hands-on IaC/automation and CI/CD experience; proficiency in architecture documentation and stakeholder communication.
- Familiarity with Digital Thread concepts and MBSE methodologies.
